Kelley Mack, who starred in The Walking Dead and 9-1-1, died on Saturday August 2 at the age of 33 after being diagnosed with glioma of the central nervous system.
Her representative has since said that, despite the diagnosis, her death was ‘very unexpected’.
She had been recovering
According to TMZ, who first reported the news of the actress’ death, Mack had undergone treatment for glioma, which is cancer of the nervous system.
A source close to the star said she had been recovering before things got worse closer to her death. But her representative told People that they were ‘totally surprised’ by her death, adding, “We had no idea the turn it took and it was very unexpected.”
Her death was announced online
Mack’s death was announced on her Instagram account.
The statement read, “It is with indelible sadness that we are announcing the passing of our dear Kelley. Such a bright, fervent light has transitioned to the beyond, where we all eventually must go.”
She rested peacefully
Both the actress’ Instagram post and her obituary shared that she “passed peacefully” while surrounded by family.
“Kelley has already come to many of her loved ones in the form of various butterflies 🦋 ❤️. She will be missed by so many to depths that words cannot express,” the statement online added.
Mack had 40 credits in the industry
Mack had 35 acting credits and five as a producer. She joined the iconic 11-season show The Walking Dead on its 9th season.
She also took roles in Chicago Med, FOX’s 9-1-1, Broadcast Signal Intrusion, and Delicate Arch.
Mack also did voice-over work
Among Mack’s acting credits was also voice-over work as she previously recorded as the voice match for Hailee Steinfeld’s character, Gwen Stacy, in the Oscar-winning animation Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Her obituary was a heartfelt one
The actress’ obituary stated that she was known for “her warmth, creativity, and unwavering support for those around her.”
“She cherished time with her family and friends, finding joy in collaboration and storytelling,” the obituary said.
