Kanye West is facing some serious backlash for serving “cold” and “nasty” $55 brunch meals to the attendees of his signature “Sunday Service” in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Nothing like a good ol’ fashioned Kanye West mid-week scandal to lift your spirits, right?
Fans are giving Kanye the third degree after he served those in attendance at his “Sunday Service” in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a very questionable brunch for $55.
Kanye is currently on tour promoting his latest album, “Jesus Is King”, and decided to make a pit-stop in Baton Rouge to host one of his signature Sunday Services.
Since the beginning of 2019, he has spent every Sunday leading pop-up church services called “Sunday Service” (yes, he has applied for the trademark).
The shtick behind his Sunday Servce, besides Christianity of course, is music.
There is a featured choir singing gospel covers, both by Kanye and by others. It’s primarily the music aspect of his services that have made them such a hit online.
“Sunday Service” started out small, as an invite-only event in closed-off rehearsal spaces. Guests were even asked to sign nondisclosure agreements before coming.
The Kardashians, Jenners, Courtney Love, Brad Pitt, Idris Elba, and Busy Phillips have all attended.
But since he brought it to Coachella this summer, he has been hosting in public spaces more frequently — sacred and recreational.
But after his latest “Sunday Service,” fans are comparing Kanye’s event to the epic dumpster fire that was Fyre Festival .
Anyway, last week Kanye stopped by a Baton Rouge church with his choir, performing tracks off of his latest album.
Things did not go off without a hitch, to say the least.
First of all, fans were already reportedly unimpressed that Kanye was two hours late, and the VIP section was allegedly just a hill with a sign on it that read “VIP”.
But those weren’t their biggest complaints of the day.
The entire VIP experience was not up to par.
This person not only mentioned the food issue, but that the VIP ticketholders were led to believe they’d have a much better view of the service than they did.
Guests were mainly disappointed by the “Brunchella” they paid $55 for.
And people couldn’t help but compare the “Brunchella” plate to the aforementioned Fyre Festival meal that went viral last year.
Someone got a video of the tent.
This is the kind of food you’d expect to see at a much cheaper tent at a much cheaper festival — people were not happy about the price they paid for the experience!
This fan snapped, accusing Kanye of serving a microwaved breakfast and urging him to “make it right” with his fans.
Whoever had to eat that definitely deserves an apology!
Some people think that if you’re still supporting Kanye West since learning his political views, then this is the brunch you deserve.
I’m not sure anybody deserves this…
This person pointed out that fans have clearly not learned their lesson since Fyre Festival went up in flames.
Moral of the story: Eat before showing up to these things.
Even 50 Cent got in on the action.
Fellow rapper 50 Cent shared a screenshot of an article detailing the incident with the caption, “I thought I was hustling, this [expletive] selling $55 pancakes!”
Although most of the criticisms are aimed at Kanye himself, he is reportedly not to blame.
The catering company that was hired for this event has released a public statement apologizing .
TMZ reported “Lauryn’s Fine Catering” statement:
“The catering company acknowledges it did not provide adequate food for ONE attendee and a social media post went viral.”
The catering company also clarified that Kanye was not paid to perform at the event and that he, in fact, paid for all the travel costs for himself and his choir.
“Kanye West and the Sunday Service collective should be disassociated with such claims surrounding the food at the event,” the statement read .
An alleged former employee also went on Twitter to corroborate.
He shared what appears to be a photo of other events that the company has catered for with very similar results.
Of course, someone pointed out the BIGGEST problem in all of this.
They were trying to claim that an event that started at 6pm could possibly include brunch . That’s just breakfast for dinner! Wake up, people!
So, it looks like Kanye is off the hook for this one!
