There are three conditions that Jimmy Kimmel must fulfill in order to get his show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, back on air after it was suspended ‘indefinitely’ following his comments on Charlie Kirk.
Kimmel was suspended for his comments
Talk show host Jimmy Kimmel had his show suspended by ABC after he made some comments about Charlie Kirk’s murder, as well as joked about how President Donald Trump was taking it.
Kirk died on September 10
Right-wing activist Charlie Kirk died on Wednesday, September 10, when he was fatally shot while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University.
He was there with his Conservative political foundation, Turning Point USA.
Kimmel claimed Trump supporters were ‘capitalizing’ on Kirk
Since the shooting, authorities have taken a prime suspect into custody; 22-year-old Tyler Robinson.
Earlier this week, Kimmel claimed on his show that ‘many in MAGA-land are working very hard to capitalize on the murder of Charlie Kirk.’
He joked about the suspected killer
On the broadcast, Kimmel also said, “The MAGA Gang [is] desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”
This sparked controversy with the FCC
ABC suspended Kimmel’s talk show just hours after Federal Communications Commission chair Brendan Carr expressed his dislike for the host’s sentiments.
The Disney-owned channel has now suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live! ‘indefinitely’ according to a statement by the nation’s largest ABC affiliate group, Sinclair.
Kimmel must now meet three demands
In order to get his show back on air, Sinclair has named three steps Kimmel must take, per Deadline.
The company explained that the suspension would not be lifted until ‘formal discussions are held with ABC regarding the network’s commitment to professionalism and accountability.’
Kimmel is also required to apologize
Sinclair also said Kimmel should ‘issue a direct apology to the Kirk family’ as well as make a ‘meaningful personal donation’ to the Kirk Family and Turning Point USA.
Kimmel himself has not yet addressed the situation.
Sinclair made it clear the three steps must be fulfilled
Sinclair concluded, “Regardless of ABC’s plans for the future of the program, Sinclair intends not to return Jimmy Kimmel Live! to our air until we are confident that appropriate steps have been taken to uphold the standards expected of a national broadcast platform.”
