The President has celebrated the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel’s talk show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, in the wake of the host’s comments on Charlie Kirk.
Trump and Kimmel never got along
Donald Trump had branded Kimmel and fellow talk show host Jimmy Fallon ‘talentless’ earlier this year, so he’s clearly not a big fan of him.
But it seems Kimmel shares the same feeling as he sought out Italian citizenship following Trump’s reelection this year.
Kimmel was suspended for comments on Kirk
A few members of the media have lost their jobs in recent days after sharing their opinions on Charlie Kirk, including one MSNBC political analyst.
Kimmel’s talk show has also now been suspended ‘indefinitely’ by ABC after he made a couple of comments on the right-wing activist.
Kirk died last week
Charlie Kirk was killed on Wednesday, September 10, while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University.
The FBI caught a prime suspect, Tyler Robinson, who could face the death penalty if found guilty of aggravated murder.
Kimmel made comments on Kirk’s alleged shooter
Kimmel made a couple of comments on the matter, saying earlier this week, “The MAGA Gang [is] desperately trying to characterise this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”
He also said that ‘many in MAGA-land are working very hard to capitalize on the murder of Charlie Kirk.’
Some higher-ups didn’t like Kimmel’s words
The comedian’s show was suspended by ABC just hours after Federal Communications Commission chair Brendan Carr expressed his anger with Kimmel’s comments.
“[This] appears to be an action by Jimmy Kimmel to play into the narrative that this was somehow a MAGA or Republican-motivated person,” Carr said on a podcast, per CNN.
He doesn’t think Kimmel operated in the public interest
“What people don’t understand is that the broadcasters … have a license granted by us at the FCC, and that comes with it an obligation to operate in the public interest,” Carr added.
“When we see stuff like this, look, we can do this the easy way or the hard way. These companies can find ways to change conduct, on Kimmel, or there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.”
Trump was happy to hear the news
Trump, who was also mocked by Kimmel on the same broadcast, has celebrated his suspension from TV, writing on Truth Social, “Great News for America: The ratings challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED.”
“Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done.”
He went on to name other talk show hosts
Trump continued, “Kimmel has ZERO talent, and worse ratings than even Colbert, if that’s possible. That leaves Jimmy and Seth, two total losers, on Fake News NBC. Their ratings are also horrible. Do it NBC!!! President DJT.”
