Jennifer Lopez has addressed the backlash she has received for changing her name following her 2022 wedding to Ben Affleck. The 53-year-old singer and actress made headlines earlier this year for marrying the man she was engaged to back in 2002 – Lopez, divorced three times before wedding actor Ben, has now changed her name to Mrs. Affleck. JLo has also been proving that she’s made of hard stuff, this as she slams the haters. She spoke to Vogue this month, noting that changing her last name was “romantic.” For JLo, tradition is still worth everything, even in 2022.

Lopez said that she was sure that many would still refer to her by her OG Jennifer Lopez name.

“People are still going to call me Jennifer Lopez. But my legal name will be Mrs. Affleck because we’re joined together,” she told Vogue .“We’re husband and wife. I’m proud of that. I don’t think that’s a problem.” Lopez also confirmed that when it comes to her life, she’s the one in control.
She’s In The Driving Seat
The “Jenny From The Block” hitmaker continued:
“I’m very much in control of my own life and destiny and feel empowered as a woman and as a person,” adding: “I can understand that people have their feelings about it, and that’s okay, too. But if you want to know how I feel about it, I just feel like it’s romantic. It still carries tradition and romance to me, and maybe I’m just that kind of girl.”
JLo has extended the traditional and romantic vibe via recent activity – she and Affleck celebrated the holidays together this year, and there was a “Hummingbird Christmas” theme as Lopez said that she feels the birds are “messengers of love.”
Shutting Down Shamers
Lopez’s clap-back came in response to an article saying that her name change was
“especially dispiriting,” this thanks to “the cringe-y history behind the practice.” Lopez and Affleck first met back in 2001 on the set of the movie Gigli . He proposed back in fall 2002 and in September 2003, the two called off their wedding. The split was actually confirmed one year later.
Lopez most recently dated Alex Rodriguez. After that ended, she seemingly fell back into Affleck’s arms.
Co-Parenting Her Twins
JLo continues to raise her twins, Max and Emme. Both are shared with ex-husband Marc Anthony. Elsewhere, the singer is making headlines for announcing a new album and continuing to promote her JLo Beauty line.
