Jennifer Aniston has shared why she repeatedly says no to a Met Gala invitation.
She’s never been seen at one
Aniston has been a red carpet fixture since the ‘90s, and despite apparently receiving the difficult approval of Anna Wintour and other designers responsible for the Met Gala, she has been turning down invitations to it.
The Met Gala has gotten stricter
Over the years, the fashion event, which is typically held on the first Monday in May, has been receiving increasingly harsher criticism from viewers who are often strict about whether an attendee has been able to stick to the year’s theme.
Aniston spoke about the event
In a recent interview with Glamour, published on Tuesday, September 2, Aniston said of the Met Gala, “Yes, I have [been invited], but I don’t go.”
“It overwhelms me. It’s the getting ready, the putting on the dress.”
She doesn’t like dressing up
“I’m a ‘jeans and flip-flops and tank top’ kind of girl,” Aniston continued.
“I love dressing up too, but for me it’s a mental game of…’Let’s get dressed up, put on a fancy dress, makeup, get your hair all “purdy” and go sit in a big room with your peers.’”
Aniston said she gets too nervous for it
The 56-year-old actress added, “Everyone’s there to celebrate each other and have some fun, but I get nervous.”
The Friends alum went on to add that she often also gets nervous about public speaking.
Her words have been ‘taken out of context’ before
Aniston added, “I even get a little anxious about public speaking, especially over the years of having your words twisted and taken out of context. So I find myself almost hall-monitoring myself in a weird way.”
She’s not a big fan of red carpets
The Just Go With It star also spoke about red carpets more broadly, saying, “Some people find it like a sport where they build you up and then they love to tear you down.”
“What’s the reason why people do it? Who knows? But I just try as best I can [to tune it out] because it doesn’t do you any good.”
