Being a mother is difficult enough, but raising your children in the public eye is an entirely different ballgame.
When every one of your decisions is broadcast to the public, regardless of whether they have good intentions behind them, people are going to want to tear you down.
When the public constantly criticizes your parenting, it can become a self fulfilling prophecy.
If everyone already thinks you’re a bad parent, what is the point in trying to prove them wrong?
This effect is only multiplied when you unexpectedly become a mom at a young age.
Teen mothers are judged harshly in our society.
They are seen as irresponsible. Though it isn’t fair to make that kind of sweeping statement, there are always those who unfortunately grow to match the stereotype.
Former ‘Teen Mom 2’ star Jenelle Evans has had a rocky relationship with keeping custody of her children.
Evans’ mother Barbara has had full custody of her first son Jace for most of his life, and we witnessed her attempts to regain said custody throughout her reality TV career.
Earlier this month, Evans’ husband David Eason shot their family dog.
Nugget allegedly nipped at their two-year-old daughter Ensley, which prompted David to end the dog’s life.
Evans released a heartbroken statement after the shooting.
“Nugget… I’m crying everyday. I love you so much and I’m so sorry. I’m speechless,” she wrote, “You were my side kick and knew the moment I felt bad and would cuddle with me. You still had a lot to learn and a lot to grow from your lessons.”
“Everyday I wake up you’re not here”
“When I come home you’re not here, when I go to bed… you’re not here. You’re gone forever and there’s no coming back.”
An animal cruelty investigation followed the incident
The incident prompted a Child Protective Services Investigation to be opened, since the safety of the family was from that point on, being publicly questioned.
As of today, Evans and Eason have officially lost custody of all four of their children.
TMZ reports that Jenelle and David have lost custody of Evans’ son Kaiser, David’s daughter Maryssa, their two-year-old daughter Ensley, and all of their visitation rights with Jace.
The judge declared that David Eason “posed a significant threat to the children.”
The judge granted the two of them one supervised hour of visitation per week.
They both have the opportunity to regain custody
On the conditions that they both participate in parenting classes and mandatory drug tests.
CPS described the state of the family home as “horrific.”
“There was drug paraphernalia found all over the house,” a source revealed to TMZ , “It was filthy and there were holes in all of the walls.”
Jenelle is allegedly shocked at the judge’s decision.
“She believed that her lawyer was going to be able to get her children back,” TMZ reports, “And she seemed stunned when this happened.”
Regardless of the judge’s ruling, she still walked out of court with David by her side.
From the public perspective, is seems as though Evans is continually choosing her husband over her children.
The public has critisized her marriage since abuse allegations began to spread last year.
Last October, Evans’ defended Eason after a terrifying 911 call was released that included a statement from Evans that her husband has broken her collarbone. She later called the incident “a drunken mistake”.
Evans has yet to release a statement regarding her loss of custody.
We sincerely hope that she is able to figure out her situation and eventually provide a safer environment for her children.
