“I have been an advocate for natural beauty for a long time, mostly because I’ve had the trial and error of the other part. I did plastic surgery — it didn’t work .”
Jamie Lee also made a recent Instagram post reiterating her stance, while simultaneously promoting her new film ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’.
In Jamie Lee’s latest project, the iconic actress plays Deirdre Beaubeirdra : a 63-year-old IRS tax auditor. For this role, Jamie Lee made a point to not conceal any aspect of her body for the film.
She begins the caption by stating that “In the world, there is an industry — a billion-dollar, trillion-dollar industry — about hiding things.”
Jamie Lee goes on to list things like concealers, body-shapers, fillers — all things that are meant to misconstrue the realities surrounding women’s bodies.
For her role of Deirdre, Jamie Lee made a point of rejecting anything and everything that would conceal the way she actually looks.
As Jamie Lee so poignantly put it, she’s been sucking in her stomach since she was 11-years-old and has spent a lifetime trying to fit into someone else’s standard of beauty.
“I very specifically decided to relinquish and release every muscle I had that I used to clench to hide the reality,” Jamie Lee continued.
Perhaps not-so-surprisingly, Jamie Lee said that she found the entire process incredibly freeing — both on a physical as well as on a creative level.
Jamie Lee’s caption echoes the comments she made in a 2021 interview with ‘Fast Company’.
“The current trend of fillers and procedures, and this obsession with filtering, and the things that we do to adjust our appearance on Zoom are wiping out generations of beauty,” she argued .
As Jamie Lee has begun aging gracefully, she’s also been inspired to speak out against anti-aging tropes.
“This word ‘anti-aging’ has to be struck,” Jamie Lee said during an appearance at the Radically Reframing Aging Summit . “I am pro-aging.” The revered actress also added that she plans on aging intelligently and with dignity.
More than anything else, Jamie Lee has resounded to no longer hide from her age.
She wants to shift the focus toward “natural beauty” and work to remove the pressure for women to present themselves as perfect unblemished entities. Considering all that Jamie Lee has done and continues to do — it would appear that she’s well on her way.
