Love can seem like a far-fetched dream for some, but it isn’t for Jamie Lee Curtis and Christopher Guest. The couple have hit their 40th year in matrimony and Curtis took the time to celebrate the milestone on Instagram.
She posted one of her wedding photos with reflections on her lifetime with him, embracing the lovebird within her on this special day.
Curtis’ special post
The Oscar winner captioned her post on Instagram: “40 years ago today, on a rainy Tuesday afternoon at 4:30, Christopher and I married. We loved each other but barely knew each other. Today, we know each other really well and still love each other.”
Their love stands above all
Curtis continued, saying: “We’ve been through a lot and have raised and loved two beautiful daughters and started many new careers and weathered the myriad storms of life on life’s terms of loving and loss. We held hands that day as we walked back down the aisle and we’re still holding hands today.”
More about the family
Curtis, 66, and Guest, 76, share two daughters, Annie, 38, and Ruby, 28. The couple met in 1984 and it was love at first sight. They both got married only six months later. Talk about dedication and following one’s dreams.
The moment she saw him, she knew
Curtis recounted in a 2004 essay published on Oprah.com: “I was sitting in my living room with my friend Debra Hill, the producer and co-writer of Halloween.”
When they were skimming through a Rolling Stone magazine, it caught her attention: “the man on the right, wearing a plaid shirt and a waggish smirk.”
She didn’t know him, but fate was on her side
“I’d never seen him before, but I pointed at him. ‘I’m going to marry that man,’ I said to my friend,” said Curtis, and the prophecy did get fulfilled. She eventually bumped into Guest a few weeks later at a restaurant and sparks flew everywhere.
She thought she was ghosted, or was she?
She told Interview magazine in 2015 that she was with the company when she saw him, and he nodded at her. She remembered, saying: “I looked down at my plate and whispered, ‘Oh my God, I called this guy and he never called me back and there he is.'”
He left, but a surprise ensued
He waved goodbye at her without any exchange of words, but Curtis was shocked to find Guest calling her the following day. “That was June 28, 1984, and I married him four months later, on December 18,” she recalled.
How he got to her
So, Hill passed Curtis’ phone number to the Guest’s agent. Before their restaurant meeting, he had never called, and Curtis had started seeing other people.
Turns out, Guest has kept her phone number all along. Maybe he was a bit too nervous and their meetup at the restaurant broke the ice, who knows?
How they keep their bond strong
Curtis shared that while she and Guest are total opposites, they somehow bring each other joy and try to find common interests.
For instance, for their 30th anniversary, they read a book called Undaunted Courage together, as they both have the same love for history books.
What makes their bond special
For her, Guest is the only one who’s made her laugh the most in her life. With him, she is always happy.
As for Guest, Curtis is sure that there is something special about her that he lies, she doesn’t know what it is but she is sure there is something.
