Pals of the late Lisa Marie Presley have made it known that the star would have been displeased by her mom’s move to challenge her trust. Her friends are speaking out as Lisa Marie’s mother, Priscilla Presley, is legally contesting being removed as a trustee.
Friends Of Lisa Marie Weigh In On The Ongoing Legal Issue
People who were close to Lisa Marie during her lifetime have shared that the late singer would be “p****d” with how her mother was handling things by trying to take charge of Graceland estate. According to a NY Post source, Lisa Marie and Priscilla were estranged for about eight years before her demise.
There Seemed To Be Some Animosity Before Her Passing
One friend revealed that Lisa Marie’s strained relationship with Priscilla was quite intense because they did not want to sit close to each other during the Golden Globes award, for which the Elvis movie was nominated. The insider explained, “Lisa didn’t want to have anything to do with her mom. She was basically estranged from Priscilla for the last seven to eight years. They only talked when there was no option.”
What Happened At The Golden Globes?
The music star’s friend revealed how the mother and daughter had attended the star-studded event in other people’s company. Lisa Marie and Priscilla did not go together, and the Hollywood Foreign Press had to make them sit together. Lisa Marie’s chaperone at the Golden Globes was her dad’s longtime friend Jerry Schilling.
When Priscilla Was A Trustee
Back in 1993, Lisa Marie, who passed away after a suspected cardiac arrest, wrote a living trust and made two people her trustees: her mom and former manager, Barry Siegel. Lisa Marie would later sue Siegel for mismanagement of funds. She amended the trust in 2010, leaving her mom as a trustee. However, there was another amendment in 2016, and it seemed Priscilla was not in the know.
Lisa Marie Replaced Her Trustees
From what was gathered, the music royalty replaced her trustees, making her son, Benjamin Keough, and daughter, Riley Keough, the new trustees. Benjamin passed away in 2020 by suicide. Lisa Marie’s trustees also included her twin daughters, Harper and Finley Lockwood.
Priscilla’s Legal Contest For Validity
From the court document filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court, Priscilla is asking the judge to invalidate the amended trust. She pointed out some issues, including an error in the spelling of her name, the supposed signature of her daughter, and the lack of a witness when the change was effected. The 77-year-old also shared that she was not informed.
Riley’s Reaction To The Challenge
An insider revealed that the Mad Max actress was upset with how things were going with her grandmother barely two weeks after he mother was buried. The source stated that the 33-year-old has been trying to keep their family united, but Prisclla’s actions would only keep them further apart.
There Has Been Support For Riley
One of Lisa Marie’s friends described Riley as an “amazing trustee,” adding that Lisa Marie’s youngest kids were “in the best hands” when it came to Riley. Joel Weinshanker, a managing partner at Elvis Presley Enterprises, shared that Lisa Marie was “very very certain” she wanted Riley to take over.
The insider stated, in regards to Benjamin and Riley, that “there was never a question in her mind that they would be the stewards, that they would look at it exactly the way she did. Obviously, when Ben passed, it really sat with Riley.”
Riley Has Always Been Prepared
Despite forging a career in Hollywood and before the big screen, Riley Keough has always been aware of what was before her, regarding her grandfather’s heirloom. Breaking her silence on the back and forth, Priscilla made it known that she and the late Elvis shared a love that bore Lisa Marie, and anyone who denied that was disrespecting what the late star left behind.
