Sarah Michelle Gellar confirmed what we’ve all known since the Scooby Gang first hit the screen in the 2000s – Velma is queer!
With the new animated series, Velma , gaining popularity, Gellar discussed the live-action film featuring her and the “raunchy” scene that never made the final cut.

During an interview on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen , the actress took a trip to the past as she discussed the scenes that never made it. Gellar said there was a kiss between Daphne (her) and Velma (Linda Cardellini).
The World Wants It
Although Gellar revealed the scene’s existence, she’s unsure if the cut is still available or where it is. She also hinted at a queer joke directed at Fred (Freddie Prinze Jr.), her husband of almost two decades.
Fred’s Sexuality Is Also In Question
Daphne teased Fred about being gay, which was a running joke in the Scooby-Doo franchise since everyone wondered about the character’s sexuality. Gellar described the deleted scene as not being family-friendly, especially with the social climate back then.
Velma’s Sexuality Is Nothing New
However, with the new animated series that’s focused on Velma highlighting her sexuality as queer, James Gunn admitted that it’s not a new phenomenon. The filmmaker said the first two movies explored Velma as a lesbian, but it never made it into the final cuts.

If we ever want to see those deleted scenes, we’ll have to beg Gunn to release them since he admits they are still available.
The New Velma
Last January, HBO Max released Velma starring Mindy Kaling, and it was the second time the character came out as gay on screen. Cardellini loves this iteration of the character, as she claims other series and movies always hinted at Velma’s sexuality.

The Character’s Origin
Velma explores the character’s origin story, as it follows her life before joining the gang. The show also features a young Daphne, Fred, and Shaggy — Scooby Doo himself has yet to make an appearance in the eight episodes that have aired so far.
