Jimmy Kimmel is facing some intense backlash after lying on the stage during Quinta Brunson ‘s acceptance speech.
Award shows can get crazy. The Emmys last night may not have had any moments quite as viral as the slap heard around the world at the Oscars , but that doesn’t mean that nobody took any issue with any behavior on stage. Jimmy Kimmel has come under fire for what many believe to be a disrespectful joke during Quinta Brunson’s first ever Emmy speech.
Last night, actress and writer Quinta Brunson took home her first Emmy for ‘Abbott Elementary.’
Before presenting Quinta with the award, presenter comedian Jimmy Kimmel jokingly pretended to be unconscious after drinking too much when he lost an award earlier that night. However, he remained lying on the ground and did not leave after Quinta’s name was called, and remained there during her entire speech.
Fans took to Twitter to call out Jimmy for this bit, calling it disrespectful to Quinta’s win.
“Quinta Brunson deserved better than giving her acceptance over Jimmy Kimmel’s “dead” body,” tweeted one fan .
“Jimmy kimmel ruining quinta’s first emmy win was so disrespectful like someone should’ve shoved him off the stage,” tweeted another.
Some felt that the fact that Quinta is a black woman may have had something to do with the joke not landing.
“Jimmy Kimmel owes Quinta an apology but the messed up part is every image of her accepting her award has his a*s in it. White men really are insufferable,” one user tweeted .
Quinta herself responded to the bit on the red carpet after the show.
“I know Jimmy Kimmel. I felt like the bit didn’t bother me that much, but I don’t know what the Internet thinks,” Quinta laughed.

“Honestly, Jimmy gave me my first late-night spot and was one of the first people to see ‘Abbott,’ and he Instagram messaged me that he saw this comedy and thought it was one of the greatest comedies of all time and he was so excited it was going to be on ABC,” she continued.
“So I think in that moment, I was just really happy that it was Jimmy up there!”
“Tomorrow maybe I’ll be mad at him. I’m going to be on his show on Wednesday, so I might punch him in the face,” she joked.
What do you think? Was Jimmy being disrespectful or was it just a joke? Let us know in the comments!
