Drew Barrymore has opened up on just how much 2022 has been a struggle for her and, yet, how she has “triumphed.” The actress and talk show host was an open book as she spoke to People recently – the host of The Drew Barrymore Show admitted that life amid a divorce has been “cripplingly difficult,” but that she’s been getting back on her feet. Drew spoke of her children and injected plenty of humor, although readers could likely read between the lines. “If I nail that part of the day or if something’s about to drop and I catch it, I’m like, ‘It’s going to be a good day,'” she revealed.
A Tough Divorce

Drew was referring to her divorce from Will Kopelman, with whom she shares 10-year-old daughters Olive and 8-year-old Frankie. The actress said that there was “no scandal” leading up to the divorce and that “nothing went wrong.” That said, she did state that it was more challenging and actually more “confusing” because there was no one thing to direct everything at.
Also revealed was the blonde’s move from California to New York, a decision she made to be closer to her ex-husband’s family. For Drew, the first winter after her move across the country was the hardest for her.
Coping By Drinking
Admitting that she turned to alcohol, Drew shared:
“It was just trying to numb the pain and feel good—and alcohol totally did that for me,” this after beating addiction back in her teenage years. “The drinking thing for me was a constant, like, ‘You cannot change. You are weak and incapable of doing what’s best for you.”
Saying that things just didn’t go to plan, the A-Lister continued: “After the life I planned for my kids didn’t work out — I almost think that was harder than the stuff [I went through] as a kid. It felt a lot more real because it wasn’t just me.”
Brief 2021 Sobriety
Drew did get sober for a while. She marked two and a half years of no drinking in December 2021, and has, in the past, referred to alcohol as something she has used to “numb” pain. She spoke of considering herself as “weak” and also an inward conversation of telling herself that she could get over it.
Recovering For Herself
Drew did end with positivity. She said that she can have an objective viewpoint and that she is absolutely able to “fight” for something if she wants it.
