Comedian Reggie Carroll has died at the age of 52 after being shot in Southaven, Mississippi.
Police announced his death on Wednesday
The Southaven Police Department (SPD) said Reggie Carroll was shot in Southaven, Mississippi on Wednesday, August 20.
The comedian was known for his touring stand-up routines across the country.
Authorities tried to save him

Authorities were called to the city’s Burton Lane after receiving reports of a shooting, per a statement shared on social media.
Officers and medical personnel ‘provided life-saving techniques, but the individual succumbed to his injuries’ at the scene.
The investigation is still ongoing

Authorities are still investigating the incident with police saying in an update on Saturday, August 23, “One male is in custody and has been charged with the murder of Reginald Carroll.”
“Our thoughts [are] with the family of Mr. Carroll. Thank you to the community for their patience and understanding.”
Carroll has TV credits along with his shows

According to his IMDb page, the comedian made a number of appearances on television over the years in addition to his stand-up comedy shows.
One of those appearances was in a 2000 episode of the variety series Showtime at the Apollo. He also produced and hosted the standup special Knockout Kings of Comedy in 2023.
A close friend paid tribute to Carroll

Deadline reported that Carroll’s close collaborator and friend, Mo’Nique, 57, paid tribute to him on her Instagram Stories.
The actress called Carroll her ‘brother in comedy’, going on to say, “This is why I say treat people the best you can because you never know if you’ll get a chance to see them again.”
She recalled the last time they were together

“And the last time me and my brother Reggie, girl, was together,” the Precious star wrote.
“That’s what it was, an amazing time, being on tour together, being on that road together, what a time, so I have no sad tears because all of our time together was amazing.”
A comedy club also paid tribute

Club Mobtown Comedy also paid tribute to the comedian on Instagram on August 23, writing, “🕊️Rest in power @comedianreggiecarroll, thank you for being one of the OGs who supported us early on.”
“The Mobtown family and the Baltimore comedy community are very saddened by this loss of one of our city’s great talents. Sending our prayers to Reggie’s family 🙏🏽🙏🏽.”
Carroll’s brother thanked people for the support

In a post on Facebook, the comedian’s brother, Jonathan Carroll, showed gratitude to friends, family, and fans for their support amid the loss.
In part, he wrote, “To all who have expressed condolences on the passing of Reggie Carroll, your love has been well received — thank you!!!”
