Cheryl Burke has said that 2022 nearly destroyed her – the Dancing With the Stars face has stated that the past year “did everything it could to break me” after her divorce. Following her departure from Season 26 of the popular dance competition series, Cheryl has opened up on her mental health and her personal life.
Not The Best Year
Taking to TikTok, 38-year-old Cheryl told fans that they might see her crying just before the clock struck midnight – she posted ahead of New Year’s Eve.
Says She’ll Be Sobbing
Cheryl wrote, “When you see me crying at 11:59pm on NYE don’t think it’s because I’m sad. It’s because i fking MADE IT through the year that did everything it could to try and break me,” this as footage showed her backstage. “And there were a lot of moments I thought it would but here I AM.”
She also said that she was “ready” to “move forward” and to no longer be defined by her past. In fact, she said that she was gearing up for a new year and entering the “next chapter” of her life. Shouting out the New Year, she said, “2023 Let’s show ’em how it’s done!”
Divorce From Matthew Lawrence
In January, the Pretty Messed Up podcast host and her husband Matthew Lawrence called it quits. The two began dating in 2007 and parted ways one year later, but they reunited in 2017. In May 2018, Boy Meets World star Lawrence proposed, and the former couple was married in May 2019. Amid a sobriety journey, Cheryl and Lawrence announced that their marriage was over. Cheryl announced the news via an IG post on February 24.
Of an emotional time on DWTS , Burke told ET :
“What is up to me is my future, and I do know that it is time for me to evolve and see what else there is. Because there is life after Dancing with the Stars , so I’ve heard. I don’t know yet. I’ll let you know.”
Wedding Stress
While still married, Cheryl had opened up to Us Weekly while gushing over her then-husband and talking about the wedding.
She said that she was under a huge amount of stress prior to the wedding, then revealed that there was a “different” kind of stress. During her marriage, Burke also called her husband her “rock” during her sobriety journey. She did, however, fall off the wagon at times. For more, see Cheryl’s social media.
