When scrolling through social media or flipping through magazines in the grocery store, it can be easy to think that all celebrities have the perfect bodies and that they couldn’t possibly be affected by the same body-image issues that the rest of us have. Of course, we know this isn’t true, and that celebrities are people who have to live in their bodies just like the rest of us, and have their own insecurities or perceived flaws. When celebs speak out about the way the media has treated their bodies, it can be a huge reality-check for the rest of us!
Here are some celebrities who are NOT here for the way the media has been treating their bodies.
Demi Lovato.
Demi Lovato has not been shy about their experience and struggles with their own body image. When a headline about their ‘fuller figure’ came to their attention, Demi called the reporter out on their Instagram, saying “I am more than my weight.”
That’s not the only time they’ve spoken out, either.
Demi’s also called out social media for the prominent use of filters.
Demi shared a video of themselves using a filter writing, “These aren’t my real eyes,” “My skin is not this smooth,” and “Wait do I need a smaller nose?” on top of the image .
“Thank God these weren’t around when I was 13 but also…how are teens supposed to learn to accept themselves?” they asked.
Miley Cyrus.
After Miley’s viral performance with Robin Thicke in 2013 garnered a lot of media attention for her latex shorts, Miley revealed she “basically went through two or three years where [she] wouldn’t wear shorts.”
“I was just starting to understand myself as an independent person, and it was just really, really hurtful to be so body-shamed like that. It really affected me in my personal life,” Miley said.
Jessica Simpson.
When Jessica caused headlines by wearing high-waisted jeans in 2009, she said she felt “taken down by the world,” after receiving a massive amount of backlash. “I’m so happy that times are changing now and more women are accepted for who they are. People are flaunting themselves at every size, because that’s how it absolutely should be.”
Khloé Kardashian.
After candid photos of the reality star were leaked and headlines were written about Khloé attempting to get the picture taken down, she took to Instagram to comment. “The photo that was posted this week is beautiful… But as someone who has struggled with body image her whole life, when someone takes a photo of you that isn’t flattering in bad lighting or doesn’t capture your body the way it is after working so hard to get it to this point…” she said .
“You should have every right to ask for it to not be shared.”
“In truth, the pressure, constant ridicule and judgment my entire life to be perfect and meet standards of how I should look has been too much to bear.”
Jameela Jamil.
The actress shared a lengthy post explaining that “Money is the reason most people don’t look as thin and young as celebrities. These people have trainers, chefs, access to the best organic food…” she wrote on Instagram , “many have talented surgeons, they have make up artists and hairstylists.”

Jameela then wrote that any random celebrity “looks so young because she doesn’t do [expletive] compared to you and gets way more sleep. (And her magazine covers are photoshopped) GIVE yourselves a break.”
Halsey.
When the singer received compliments on their post-baby body after performing on SNL, they took to Instagram to comment. “The body behind all those compliments the other night was wearing a custom tailored outfit and lighted perfectly after much testing, so I could feel good and do my job,” they wrote .
“I will never have my ‘pre baby body back’ no matter how it changes physically because I have now had a baby!”
“That has altered me forever; emotionally, spiritually, and physically. That change is permanent. And I don’t want to go back!”
Amy Schumer.
Amy was included without her approval on a list of plus-sized actresses and took to Instagram to share her thoughts. “I think there’s nothing wrong with being plus size. Beautiful healthy women. Plus size is considered size 16 in America. I go between a size 6 and an 8,” she wrote , “Young girls seeing my body type thinking that is plus size?
Kumail Nanjiani.
The actor went through a huge physical transformation to be cast in the Eternals movie. Along with that came a lot of comments about his pre-transformation body, which affected him. “To hear a bunch of people reaffirming my own darkest thoughts about myself was very difficult.” he said .
“It’s very easy to get obsessed with that number on the scale.”
“It’s a tough thing. It’s deceiving. You become obsessed with it. I certainly have, and for me, it’s not great to weigh myself every day. I could tell you what I weigh today.”
Rebel Wilson.
Rebel has been making a lot of headlines after losing weight during her Year Of Health . “I got a lot of pushback,” she said , of her decision to lose weight. “I feel like I’m really going to physically transform and change my life and they were like, ‘Why? Why would you want to do that?’ Because I was earning millions of dollars being the funny fat girl and being that person.”
Rebel also explained that more people wanted to talk about her weight than her career.
“In 2019, I had, like, four movies come out, two which I produced and one, Jojo Rabbit , which got nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture. Yet I get more press the following year when I do nothing except lose weight.” she said .
