AJ McLean , 44, is showing off his physique on Instagram after 3 years of sobriety.
Our generation might just be the luckiest — when it comes to the boybands of the ’90s and ’00s, there’s really no going wrong with who your favorite member was. The Backstreet Boys are touring again, *NSYNC members are living the dream (and luckily JT isn’t rocking those frosted tips anymore), and basically all of them have aged like fine wine . AJ McLean is definitely one of them, and he’s sharing his fitness and sobriety journey on Instagram.
AJ has opened up in the past about going sober in 2019.
“Becoming a father changes everything. For some people, they go the other way — grow up first, then have kids. But I dove in head-first and I love being a dad,” AJ said . “[Addiction] has made me have to look inward, which I think is what a lot of people who haven’t fully matured are lacking,” he added. “That’s something I’ve struggled with for years. I put my family first, then I put my job, then somewhere down the line is me.”
AJ said his health journey has helped open his eyes.
“It’s okay to put me before all of it because if I’m not happy and healthy, how could I be the father and husband that I truly know I am and want to become even better at? If I’m not happy or healthy, all the other stuff is eventually going to go bye-bye,” AJ said .
He’s definitely put that to the test in a before-and-after shot he shared to his Instagram recently.
“Thought I’d do a little throwback Thursday vibes,” he captioned the shot.
“Found the pic on the left from a year ago on vacation and wow it’s amazing what a little dedication and setting goals can do for a person. The journey is far from over though. This is just the beginning!” He wrote, adding the hashtags for healthy lifestyle, sober, and no more dad bod.
Needless to say, fans were impressed.
“I’m so proud of you AJ!” one commenter shared. “Actually, it’s been a year since I became sober!!”
“New VIP Package concept…. Gym workout with AJ where he’s shirtless and ripped as the gym instructor making me feel bad about my current fitness level but also giving me that thirst trap I need to get through leg day,” another added.
Now we are definitely on board with that one!
