Ashley Graham, supermodel and supermom of 3 , shared a powerful body positive message with an unedited Instagram video of her post-baby body .
New moms, whether they’re supermodels or not, are so often expected to bounce right back to their pre-pregnancy body after giving birth , never mind the fact that they just grew an entire human and probably don’t have the time or the energy to devote to a strict exercise and diet regime. Ashley Graham is speaking out and proving that it’s okay to let your body just exist after giving birth.
Ashley Graham is no stranger to keeping it real about pregnancy and new mom life.
When it comes to issues many new moms face, from stretch marks to breast-feeding , Ashley is always going to be trying to show all moms out there that they are not alone in whatever they’re struggling with.
This of course includes the pressure to bounce back to your pre-pregnancy body after giving birth.
“Like so many women, what I went through with childbirth has reshaped my relationship with my body,” Ashley has said.
“I work in an industry that expects me to return to work in a body that has ‘snapped back’ – a pressure that no woman, in any industry, deserves to feel. I have always fought against unfair and unrealistic standards and yet, if I am being completely honest, here I was, expecting myself to snap back. And fast.” Ashley told Glamour recently, following the birth of her twin sons in January.
She shared this unedited video to her Instagram with a powerful caption.
“Posting this video for all the mamas who haven’t and may never “bounce back” and for anyone who needs to be reminded that your body is beautiful in its realest form,” she captioned the shot .
“This is my strong, five-month-postpartum-been-pregnant-for-two-years body,” she wrote, referencing the fact that her second pregnancy occurred less than a year after giving birth to her first child.
“As it is. in hopes to further normalize ALL bodies in every and any stage of life,” she wrote.
Fans in the comments loved to see it. “Yessss! Love this. Because most celebrities show their quick “bounce back” and it’s not a reality for most women,” one fan wrote.
“I love this so much. Women’s bodies don’t need to “bounce back;” we’re people, not trampolines!” another added.
We couldn’t agree more!
