Ariana Grande has responded to scrutiny over her appearance following the renewed concerns for her health.
Many have been talking about it lately
Renewed concerns for cast members of the musical Wicked: For Good have been the topic of discourse on the internet lately following the press tour for the film.
Many are worried that their health might not be in its best shape.
Grande has particularly been receiving comments
The singer isn’t new to receiving comments about her body, which peaked in the 2024 press tour for Wicked, with many comparing her current appearance to previous years.
Now that the topic has been renewed, she posted a clip of her addressing the scrutiny from a December 2024 interview.
Grande reshared the interview
Having addressed this topic in the interview with co-star Cynthia Erivo in December 2024, Grande reposted the clip on her Instagram Stories over the weekend and wrote, “resharing this from last year as a loving reminder to all.”
She addressed the criticisms
Speaking to the interviewer at the time, Grande said that she had ‘heard it all’ when it comes to her appearance.
“I’ve heard every version of it — of what’s wrong with me — and then you fix it, and then it’s wrong for different reasons,” she said.
Grande finds it difficult to battle
“It’s hard to protect yourself from that noise,” the singer went on. “And I think it’s something that’s uncomfortable, no matter what scale you’re experiencing it on.”
She added, “Even if you go to a Thanksgiving dinner and someone’s granny says, ‘Oh my God, you look skinnier! What happened?’ or ‘You look heavier! What happened?’”
The comments upset her
“It’s like, that is something that is uncomfortable and horrible, no matter where it’s happening,” Grande went on.
“I think, in today’s society, there’s a comfortability that we shouldn’t have. At all. Commenting on others’ looks, appearance, what they think is going on behind the scenes, or health, or how they present themselves.”
Grande feels these comments are ‘dangerous’
“There’s a comfortability that people have with commenting on that that I think is really dangerous. And I think it’s dangerous for all parties involved,” she expressed.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo, who was doing the interview with her, added to the conversation as she has also faced criticism over her appearance.
Erivo shared how she deals with it
“I think I’m really lucky to have the support system that I have,” Erivo said while rubbing Grande’s hand.
“And to just know and trust that I’m beautiful… But I do know what the pressure of that noise feels like,” she added.
She doesn’t let herself be upset about it
“It’s been a resident in my life since I was 17, and I just don’t invite it in anymore. It’s not welcome,” Erivo said about the pressure she faces.
“I have work to do, I have a life to live, I have friends to love on, I have so much love, and [the commentary is] not invited. So I don’t leave space for it anymore.”
