Anya Taylor-Joy embraced the Victorian era fashion style in her latest Harper’s Bazaar UK special issue as the publication named her Woman of the Year. The 27-year-old is one of the fastest-rising stars in the movie industry worldwide, with credits in major releases.
She didn’t start her career in the 2020s, but her portrayal as Beth Harmon in Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit earned her worldwide stardom and acclaim, thus throwing her into stardom. As a multi-award-winning star, including a BAFTA, Taylor-Joy deserved the honor of covering the magazine’s “Woman of the Year” issue.
A Victorian Lady At The Gala
Taylor-Joy took a cue from the year’s MET Gala theme, “The Gilded Age,” for the award Gala in Claridge’s. She wore an ivory lace two-piece of a sheer bralette and a high-waist hoop petticoat skirt.
The skirt formed a half-ball with a cage stopping below her bum while the rest of the material fell straight with gathers.
The British actress paired her look with a peasant pigtail hairstyle parted in the middle while her face carried more drama with smoky eyeshadow.
Channeling Her Inner Girl Power
Taylor-Joy’s Victorian-era dress continued her cover photo theme, although she leaned into a subtle ivory tone for the event. On the cover, she chose a fiery red maxi dress with a tiered skirt, balloon short-sleeves, and a pleated off-shoulder neckline.
The actress paired the red with black accessories, from her riding boots to her gloves and cinching belt.
Regal In Bordeaux Chinese-Style Clothing
Taylor-Joy’s Victorian style didn’t end there as she served another regal look in a Bordeaux red Chinese-inspired Dior dress. It had intricate lace detailing woven in a cord with Pankou knot buttons and covered her face with a complimentary lace hand fan.
The actress’ dress was a statement piece, so she neglected any jewelry that could rival its attention and kept her makeup simple with her long blonde hair tied back in a low ponytail.
According to an Instagram post from her makeup artist, Taylor-Joy shot the cover in Australia amidst filming Furiosa.
Filming ‘Furiosa’ In Australia

During her interview with Jimmy Fallon, she confessed that her stay in Australia didn’t involve any “Princess-like” action, so she came home to rectify that. From her regal photoshoot to dressing up as Princess Peach for Halloween, Taylor-Joy proved she could rock any style!
Furiosa is a prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road, with Taylor-Joy playing the younger titular character (formerly Charlize Theron) in the dystopian world. It requires a lot of stunts and fights from a “tomboy,” for lack of a better word.
