Anitta put Brazil on the map this year with her global hit Envolver, and it’s been up for the Latin singer since then. She had a moment at the American Music Awards last night as she became the first Brazilian to win the Favorite Female Artist.
The singer chose black and white as her colors for the night and gave an electrifying performance of her song, Lobby, with Missy Elliot. As she said via Instagram , “So many blessings.”
Making A Statement In Mugler
Anitta first stepped on the black carpet in a black and white two-toned Mugler dress. It had a white long-sleeve top, a high-waist black skirt, and a sheer mesh material. The skin tone shade of the mesh material gave Anitta’s dress the appearance of a two-piece.
She wasn’t finished with us because the Brazilian act turned and gave us a sneak peek of her butt. Her black skirt had two masterful yin-yang cuts on either cheek, also designed with mesh material.
Making History At The AMAs
The 29-year-old changed into another black and white dress made of a molded backless corset and a skintight white skirt with a long fishtail. She switched her previously styled bun into a red wavy long style and accentuated her peplum breastplate with silver Wonder Woman cuffs.
Anitta got emotional while accepting her first AMA Diamond, saying she started singing as a fun challenge and experimented with sounds, not knowing she’d become this big of an act. Her driving force is knowing that she’s opening doors for other Brazilians who thought it was impossible to make it globally.
Performing With Missy Elliot
Anitta has become a global star, making hits with other musical veterans like Black Eyed Peas and Missy Elliot. She performed her song, Lobby, with the latter on the AMA stage in a black velour catsuit while the eccentric rapper decked out in a logo Versace three-piece suit.
Their performance ranks amongst the best of the night, and they had the crown turned up.
Anitta At The Grammys

Anitta wasn’t so lucky at the Latin Grammys, where she earned nominations for Record of the Year and Reggaetón Performance of the Year. She lost the first nomination to Jorge Drexler & C. Tangana for Tocarte , and the second went to Tainy, Julieta Venegas, and Bad Bunny for Lo Siento BB:/ .
She’s nominated again at the American Grammys for Best New Artist, so hopefully, she snags that one.
