Amy Schumer was roasting trolls online—until she realized they might actually have a point. She just revealed that all the talk about her “moon face” led to a surprising health diagnosis.
People commented on Schumer’s changing face

For a while now, people online have been making nasty comments about how the Trainwreck actress looks, pointing out that her face seemed puffier than before.
At first, she didn’t take it too seriously.
She even responded on Instagram with sarcasm: “Thank you so much for everyone’s input about my face!”
But then things took a turn…

On the Call Her Daddy podcast, she told Alex Cooper: “At first, I was like, ‘f* off.'”
But it wasn’t just haters commenting—actual doctors started chiming in…
“They were like, ‘No, no, something’s really up. Your face looks so crazy.'”
Turns out, some of them suspected the 46-year-old actress might have Cushing’s syndrome. That was her sign to get a medical check.
Schumer was diagnosed in February 2024

The star found out she had Cushing’s right when she was about to start filming her new comedy, Kinda Pregnant.
“I found out I had this thing called moon face… and I’m literally about to star in a movie,” she said. “And there’s a camera right in my face.”
Even people around her were concerned

Schumer said that one friend straight-up told her, “Yeah, your face looks a little bit insane.”
Cushing’s syndrome happens when there is too much cortisol

According to the National Health Service (NHS), Cushing’s syndrome happens when there’s too much cortisol in the body, and if it’s not treated, it can get pretty serious.
Common signs include:
- round, puffy face
- weight gain
- skin that bruises easily
- purple stretch marks
Cushing’s syndrome might be caused by tumors

There’s a case where Cushing’s syndrome can happen to people who’ve been on steroid meds for a long time.
But in rare cases, it can develop naturally if there’s a tumor in the pituitary or adrenal glands—these glands control cortisol production.
If it’s not treated, it can lead to some pretty serious issues, like high blood pressure.
Schumer initially dismissed the concerns as trolling

Then it clicked.
The Kinda Pregnant actress realized, “Wait, I have been getting steroid injections for my scars.”
“I was getting these steroid injections, and so it gave me this thing called Cushing’s syndrome.”
Treatment for Cushing’s syndrome involves reducing steroid use

In case the reason is prolonged use of steroids, the usual fix is to lower or stop the steroids to bring cortisol levels back down.
Schumer admits the internet led her to the diagnosis
Looking back, the Emmy-winning actress admitted the comments actually did her a favor.
“I wouldn’t have known [about Cushing’s syndrome] if the internet hadn’t come for me so hard,” she said.
If social media trolls hadn’t called out her ‘moon face’, Schumer said she probably wouldn’t have figured it out so fast.
In the podcast, Amy said she managed to get rid of the syndrome with some good advice and encouragement.
