Fans of the hit reality competition series American Idol are mourning the loss of runner-up Willie Spence. The singer, who appeared on the show’s 19th season, has reportedly died after sustaining injuries in a car accident, as reported by Page Six.

His powerful chops landed him runner-up with fellow competitor Chayce Beckham taking home the top prize.
Willie’s local news outlet DouglasNow confirmed the 23-year-old’s tragic death on their Facebook account.
“DouglasNow has learned that Douglas native and American Idol Season 19 runner-up Willie Spence, 23, has passed away due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Tennessee,” they wrote.
“We extend our condolences to Willie’s family, friends, and fans,” the statement continued.
“He was an extraordinary talent and a ray of light to millions across the world. He will be missed.”
Social media soon became flooded with tributes to the late star.
Singer and fellow “American Idol” alum Katharine McPhee Foster reacted to the news on her Instagram story.
As fans of the show will recall, Katharine shared the stage with the singer during the show’s All-Star Duets where they pair covered Bette Midler’s The Prayer.
“I received very tragic news tonight,” she wrote on her Instagram stories above a video of her and Willie meeting. “Sweet @williespenceofficial passed away in a car accident. Only 23 years old. Life is so unfair and nothing is ever promised.”
“It was a pleasure to sing with you and to know you,” she added.
Film producer and former “Vanderpump Rules” star Randall Emmett also paid tribute to his “friend” on Instagram.
“My heart is broken and my prayers go out to his family,” the 51-year-old wrote over a photo of Willie.
“I was lucky to have him sing for me live at my home and other events, I will miss you my friend. I know you touched so many of us. I’m heart broken.”
“I will cherish our talks,” he added. “Rest in Peace. God bless you.”
It’s clear Willie touched so many lives in his short 23 years. His talent will remain in the hearts and minds of “American Idol” fans everywhere.
