Pop star Katy Perry ran into trouble with law enforcement for a music video she released more than a year ago.
She’s been making headlines
If you’ve been following pop culture, you’ll know the artist has recently been making headlines for all the wrong reasons, such as people being upset at her being aboard the Blue Origin flight that had the first all-female crew.
She’s also been criticized for a legal dispute over a veteran’s house as well as her recent tour.
Some of the criticism was in relation to the climate
Perry, along with other celebrities who were onboard the Blue Origin flight, was criticized for her carbon footprint as the group took a space shuttle that burnt tons of rocket fuel only to spend a few minutes in space and come back.
Perry is in trouble again
The 40-year-old pop star is in trouble now for filming a music video in a ‘protected area’ in Spain.
The video was for her 2024 single LIFETIMES which was released on August 8 of last year. It was shot in Ses Salines Natural Park on the Balearic Islands in Spain.
Locals weren’t happy with this
The singer left locals upset when she filmed the video at the national park, a protected area, without receiving the necessary official permission to do so.
The investigation into the case began in July 2024 and Perry is now being forced to pay a fine, according to local outlet Majorca Daily Bulletin.
A fine has been issued
The outlet also reported that a fine of €6,001 ($7,032) has already been issued to the music video’s production company, WeOwnTheCity, but the Balearic Islands government revealed the investigation is still not over.
She didn’t get the necessary permissions
It’s believed that the production firm behind the video didn’t obtain the needed permit from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and the Natural Environment to enter and film in the restricted area.
Although Ses Salines Natural Park is a popular destination for celebrity projects, permits are still required to enter it.
No major damage was done
The action was considered a ‘serious’ offence, but it’s reported that no major damage was done to the area.
Parts of the music video show shots of dunes on the islet of S’Espalmador, which is located within the Unesco World Heritage nature reserve in the South of Ibiza where the national park is.
