Katy Perry’s getting dragged online after suing an 85-year-old veteran who’s seriously ill. People are calling her “entitled” and saying what she did is straight-up “unforgivable.”
Katy Perry sued an 85-year-old veteran over a $15 million mansion

Back in 2020, Carl Westcott agreed to sell his Montecito home to the Firework singer for $11.25 million, according to the Daily Mail. But just a few days later, he tried to back out, saying he was on heavy pain meds when he signed and wasn’t thinking straight.
Perry and her husband, Orlando Bloom, weren’t having it

They took him to court, won the case in late 2023, and officially got the 9,000-square-foot mansion. She even got the keys last year.
But then she hit Westcott with another lawsuit

The pop singer asked for $6 million in back rent and damages. Keep in mind, this man is seriously sick with a neurological condition.
The Westcott family says Katy Perry’s lawsuit is fueled by greed

The family of Carl Westcott, an 85-year-old veteran who’s bedridden and seriously ill, isn’t holding back. They’re calling Katy Perry “entitled” and “unforgivable” after she hit him with the $6 million lawsuit.
“There’s no real explanation other than greed,” his son Chart told The Sun. “This is such a small thing to be making a big deal about. Honestly, I think it’s just privilege—her lawyers and business manager are handling everything for her.”
But the Westcott family is ready to face Katy Perry in court

Westcott’s whole immediate family—including his sons Chart and Court (who’s married to Real Housewives of Dallas star Kameron Westcott)—plans to show up at LA Superior Court.
Meanwhile, Carl’s health is getting worse
Chart says his dad has been “bedridden for over 18 months” and is in horrible shape. “He’s barely awake, very foggy… still recognizes us, but it’s just a constant decline. It’s painful to watch,” he told The Sun.
Perry has placed $9 million in escrow to pay Westcott
The Dark Horse singer has set aside $9 million in escrow to pay Westcott, a veteran of the US Army 101st Airborne who grew up “dirt poor” in Mississippi.
For more context, Carl worked hard to overcome poverty. He grew up in a tiny shotgun house with no plumbing and a father who never made it past second grade. He had to hustle a lot as a teenager to become a successful businessman.
The trial has been delayed after Perry’s team hired 25 experts

Originally, the damages trial was set for November 2024 and was supposed to last just a few days. But things got delayed when Perry—who’s worth around $350 million—brought in 25 experts to inspect the house for damages.
Her legal team claims the property needs repairs—water damage, a fallen oak tree, other maintenance issues—because she had to wait years to move in while Westcott fought the sale.
Westcott was on heavy painkillers when he signed the contract

His legal complaint states that between his age, back condition, surgery, and constant opiate use, Westcott wasn’t in a sound state of mind when he agreed to the sale.
And this isn’t the first time the pop star has had real estate drama
In 2015, she bought a convent in Los Angeles for $14.5 million from Archbishop Jose Gomez. But two elderly nuns insisted the property wasn’t his to sell. They claimed they had already sold it weeks earlier for $15.5 million.
During the legal battle in 2018, one of the nuns collapsed and died in court. After that, the other nun made a chilling statement—she said Perry had “blood on her hands.”
