The woman who threw Jay-Z’s name into a sexual assault lawsuit against Diddy last month dropped the case. But now Jay-Z’s firing back, suing her and her lawyer, Tony Buzbee, for defamation.
Jay-Z fights back with a defamation lawsuit
Jay-Z’s lawsuit says the woman and her legal team were straight-up driven by greed, completely ignoring the truth and basic human decency when they dragged him into the Diddy case.
The ‘Jane Doe’ accused both Diddy and Jay-Z
Back in December 2024, the woman accused both Jay-Z (real name Shawn Carter) and Diddy of raping her at an MTV VMAs after-party in 2000 when she was just 13. Jay-Z quickly filed a motion to have her name revealed, but the court shot it down.
He’s not just suing her—he’s also suing her lawyer
The rapper is already caught in a legal battle with the woman’s main lawyer, Tony Buzbee—who’s also named in this new defamation case.
Buzbee, for his part, isn’t backing down. Talking to the Daily Mail, he brushed off the lawsuit, saying—just like Carter’s other claims against him—it “has no legal merit.”
He says he never wanted to go this far
Jay-Z is taking legal action against the woman who accused him and Sean “Diddy” Combs of rape when she was 13. He’s also going after her lawyers.
The 55-year-old has filed a defamation lawsuit—obtained by E! News—against the woman who accused him and Sean “Diddy” Combs of rape in a complaint she later dropped. Jay-Z says she made false, damaging claims about him just to cash in.
Jay-Z makes it clear in the lawsuit that he’s not taking it lightly
He also says he has no intention of revealing his accuser’s identity and wants to keep her listed as “Doe.”
The lawsuit against Jay-Z is officially dead
Two months after the lawsuit, she dropped the case completely. According to court docs E! News got on Feb. 14, the lawsuit was dismissed with prejudice—meaning she and her lawyers can’t refile it ever again.
The filing also mentioned that all sides had discussed the matter, and the defendants agreed to the dismissal.
Jay-Z calls out the ‘fictitious’ lawsuit
But in Carter’s new defamation lawsuit—filed in Alabama—he calls the whole thing not just “false” and “malicious,” but also a calculated move, carefully timed to cause him the most harm possible.
The rapper is clearly traumatized by the whole incident
Jay-Z spoke out, saying, “I would not wish this experience on anyone.” He added that the trauma he, his wife, his kids, and his loved ones went through “can never be dismissed.”
Meanwhile, Diddy is still behind bars
Diddy is still locked up, waiting for his trial on May 5. He’s facing federal charges for sex trafficking and racketeering—but he’s pleaded not guilty. He’s called the “barrage of filings” against him nothing more than a grab for publicity.
