Musician Ricky Martin, 50, has broken his silence after being issued a restraining order this weekend.
Puerto Rican star Ricky Martin is facing legal trouble after it was made public this weekend that a restraining order was filed against him by an anonymous second party that prevents him from contacting them until a trial is held.
Over the weekend, singer Ricky Martin was issued a restraining order in Puerto Rico from an anonymous party.
Police spokesman Axel Valencia told The Associated Press, “Up until now, police haven’t been able to find him.”
El Vocero, a Puerto Rican newspaper, stated that the order claims Martin and the anonymous party dated for seven months, and broke up two months ago, but that Martin “did not accept” the separation and had appeared at their home three times.
“The petitioner fears for his safety,” El Vocero reported.
Due to the restraining order, Martin was prohibited from contacting or calling the anonymous party. The order was filed under Puerto Rico’s domestic violence law, which protects the identity of the party who filed it.
Martin has now spoken out about this issue in a statement made on social media.
“The protection order entered against me is based on completely false allegations,” Martin stated.
“So I will respond through the judicial process with the facts and the dignity that characterizes me. Because it is an ongoing legal matter, I cannot make detailed statements at this time. I am grateful for the countless messages of solidarity, and I receive them with all my heart,” he tweeted .
Fans took to the replies to share messages of support for the singer.
Martin has been married to his partner, Jwan Yosef, since 2017, and the couple share four children together : Valentino, Matteo, Lucia, and Renn.
It has not been announced yet what date the hearing will occur.
Martin is also facing a 3 million dollar lawsuit by his former manager, who claims she protected him from “catastrophic” consequences to his career.
“Rebecca Drucker saved Ricky Martin’s career,” the lawsuit claims . Drucker served as Martin’s manager from 2014-2018 and then from 2020-2022. “There is just one problem: Martin completely and maliciously refused to pay Rebecca the millions of dollars in commissions that he owes her under their management agreement.”
“Martin has now threatened Rebecca and is attempting to force her to sign an agreement with a nondisclosure clause to silence Rebecca about the abhorrent behavior by Martin that she has both witnessed and endured.”
“For years, she protected Martin from the consequences of his reckless indiscretions. Rebecca did so not only because she was his manager, but also because she thought that Martin was her dear friend,” the suit continues.
“Rebecca not only acted to advance Martin’s career but also rendered services to protect it,” the suit states.
Specifically, the suit references Drucker advising Martin through a “potentially career-ending allegation in September 2020,” although the suit does not go into detail.
Martin has not yet publicly commented on the lawsuit.
