Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone is far and away one of the most exciting new dramas on television, followed closely by the series’ spin-off, 1883 — thanks largely due to the stellar performance of country music sensation, Tim McGraw .

He proposed to his wife and co-star, Faith Hill, at a country music festival.
Both Faith and Tim were performing that night, and Tim said that he was feeling nervous. Right before he was about to go on stage, he popped the question but Faith never answered. Midway through the set, she held up a sign that said “Yes! I’m gonna be your wife .”
Tim is a published author, with several books to his name.
Tim has written two childrens’ books alongside co-author, Tom Douglas. He’s also written “Songs of America: Protest, and the Music That Made a Nation” as well as ” Grit & Grace: Train the Mind, Train the Body, Own Your Life .”
Tim’s assortment of tattoos will probably surprise you.
Tim has a total of five tattoos to date. Four of which you can see, one that you cannot. His first and only hidden tattoo is of a leprechaun wearing a cowboy hat, located on his thigh. And yes, he was very drunk at the time.
He used to ride in his high school rodeo.
During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert , Tim informed Stephen that he used to be a bareback rider in his younger years. Bareback riders don’t use a saddle, so it’s kind of like riding a jackhammer with one hand.
Tim absolutely terrified his daughter’s first boyfriend.
Tim asked her daughter’s young suitor to come by the house in order to introduce himself. He’d spent the morning butchering beef , and when the boy knocked at the door — Tim answered, covered in blood while holding a knife.
Tim is a recovering alcoholic.
Tim has been sober since 2008 — that’s 14 years . He credits his wife, Faith Hill, as being the person who changed his life for the better. Without her, he never would’ve been able to do it.
Tim studied pre-law in college.
“I graduated second in my high school class,” Tim explained to Esquire . “I was in prelaw in college. And then I discovered playing guitar. I finally had to make a phone call to my mom and say, ‘I’m going to drop out of college, sell everything I have, and move to Nashville .’”
Tim and Faith were a package deal for ‘1883’.
During an interview with entertainment journalist Lauren Veneziani , Tim explained that he and Faith Hill were either going to do the show together or not at all. As Tim explained, there was no other way around it: she loved it, he loved it, and that was that.
Tim has a soft spot for Elton John.
Who doesn’t, am I right? While making an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert , Tim was asked to sing a song. Instead of choosing one of his own, he opted for Elton’s immortal classic, “Tiny Dancer.”
Tim has a great relationship with his co-star, Sam Elliot.
It turns out that Sam was one of the biggest reasons why Tim signed on to play James Dutton. When filming wrapped on Season 1, Tim expressed to Sam just how much he’d learned from him. To which Sam replied, “Oh yeah? Well, I haven’t learned a [expletive] thing from you .”
He’s sensible when it comes to buying his cowboy hats.
“I don’t pay very much for my cowboy hats,” Tim told Esquire . “I wear a black straw hat made by Resistol. It takes about three shows to really sweat through it to fall into place and start looking good.”
Tim and his wife Faith Hill are disgustingly close, to a fault.
While making a joint appearance on The Ellen Show , host Ellen DeGeneres convinced Tim and Faith to play a game of “Never Have I Ever.” When the couple was asked “Never have I ever used my spouse’s toothbrush without telling them,” both emphatically replied that they had.
Tim hated filming one particular scene for ‘1883’ above all others.
In one of the pivotal moments in Season 1, Margaret Dutton (Faith Hill) slaps her husband James (McGraw) as hard as she can. Tim explained to ExtraTV that Faith really did, in fact, hit him — and the scene took 10 takes to film.
He never eats before a live musical performance.
By Tim’s own admission, he hates to perform on a full stomach. He says that every time he steps out on the stage, he wants to feel like he’s a hungry lion out on the prowl.
