Part of what makes Marvel movies so engrossing is the rich mythology that they all share. There’s always something to look at and think about, so it’s no wonder that there are some details in them that we missed the first (or second, or third) time around.
We’ve looked before at hidden details in Avengers: Infinity War specifically, but what about the rest of the Marvel movies?
1. In “Deadpool,” Weasel’s got other things on his mind besides warning Vanessa.
Vanessa works at a strip club. Weasel, being a weaselly sort of guy, is on board for warning Vanessa about the danger that’s to come, but he’s also got a stack of singles in his front pocket. Y’know, just in case.
2. Heroes in similar situations got the exact same score.
If the music when Tony Stark is calling Pepper Potts in Avengers: Infinity War sounds familiar, it’s because it’s the same score that was playing when Steve Rogers spoke to Peggy Carter at the end of Captain America: The First Avenger , before sacrificing himself.
3. Nakya, T’Challa, and Okoye’s outfits at the casino in “Black Panther” have a special significance.
The green, black, and red color scheme depicted above is no coincidence. The three colors are meant to represent the Pan-African flag.
4. A monument in “Avengers: Age Of Ultron” calls back to the battle at the end of “The Avengers.”
Since Grand Central Station, or at least its clock, was destroyed in the Battle of New York, the statue surrounding the clock was replaced in Age of Ultron with one paying respects to the human first responders to the event.
5. Thor left a mark on the Avengers headquarters.
When we see the new Avengers facility in Ant-Man , some eagle-eyed viewers noticed that the mark left by Thor when he left for Asgard is still in the grass.
6. There’s a very famous actor doing that toilet paper scene in “Deadpool 2.”
You may recognize Alan Tudyk as the other half of the conversation, but the guy with the yellow mesh-back trucker hat is actually Matt Damon — underneath 4 hours worth of prosthetics.
7. Star-Lord’s jail profile reveals how he’s able to communicate with all of those aliens.
The prison profiles in Guardians of the Galaxy are loaded with fun details about the characters, not the least of which is the fact that Peter Quill has a translator implant in his neck, which allows him to communicate with all of the alien races he encounters.
They also call him “Space-Lord,” continuing the joke that no one respects his Star-Lord moniker.
8. Deadpool’s map in “Deadpool 2” has a meta-reference to Hugh Jackman.
The map is full of fun images, but one detail we definitely missed the first time is that Wolverine is on the map, labeled as Prisoner 24601, a reference to Hugh Jackman’s role as Jean Valjean in Les Misérables .
9. A photo taken of Tony and Pepper in “Iron Man 2” makes a comeback.
In The Avengers , we see that that very picture has stuck around in Tony’s life, living in a frame on a table.
10. In a scene from “Age of Ultron,” Thor shows Captain America subtle but massive respect.
Eventually, Thor decides to let the rest of the Avengers try some of the Asgardian liquor, but before he offers them that consolation, he’d already let Cap have some.
11. Garrett Morrison’s scene in “Ant-Man” is actually a callback decades in the making.
Back in 1979, Morrisson played Ant-Man in the character’s very first live-action appearance in a Saturday Night Live skit.
12. Loki’s heat signature in “The Avengers” previews something we wouldn’t discover until a few movies later.
If you check out the bottom-right of the screen when the Avengers have Loki captured, you can see that Loki’s heat signature is much colder than the room around him. That’s because he’s a frost giant.
13. Spider-Man’s unfortunate landing in “Spider-Man 2” had a hilarious touch of irony to it.
Peter Parker says he needs a “strong focus” before jumping off the building. The car he ends up landing on is a Ford Focus.
14. Bruce Banner makes a tiny cameo in “Spider-Man: Homecoming.”
In Peter’s physics class, some of the greatest minds in scientific history are shown above the chalkboard. The one at the very end is Bruce Banner.
15. The paint job of Ego’s car in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” might look a bit familiar.
There’s a lot about Peter Quill that falls under the “like father like son” category, and their color preference is no exception. Without any real way to know it, Quill ends up painting his ship in the exact same colors as his father’s car in his time on Earth.
