Hours before Britney Spears married Sam Asghari, her ex-husband Jason Alexander was arrested after filming himself trying to crash her wedding on Instagram Live.

In the months since Spears was finally released from her 13-year conservatorship, one of the biggest ways she's sought to get her life back is to marry her long-time boyfriend Sam Asghari.

After announcing her engagement in September, Spears has given fans the occasional sneak peek into what her big day would be like for her. Because while many people spend years dreaming and planning for their wedding day, it feels all the more important to do so when you've been legally barred from marrying anyone for over a decade.

But while her fans watched with excitement for every update, it seems they weren't the only ones with such a vested interest in her wedding and its details.

Spears first met Asghari — a 28-year-old personal trainer — on the set of a 2016 music video for her song "Slumber Party."

The BBC reported that she would have preferred to marry him three years earlier, but was nonetheless excited to finally tie the knot in a private ceremony in Ventura County, California with guests that included Madonna, Drew Barrymore, and Paris Hilton.

But one person who wasn't on the guest list was Jason Alexander, the man she had married for a grand total of 55 hours in January of 2004.

Yet in a video he streamed to Instagram Live, Alexander decided to turn up anyway and did so by trespassing onto some secluded property and searching the venue's upstairs rooms for Spears.

When he was confronted by the venue's security team, he tried to ingratiate himself to them and even shook one of their hands.

As he claimed at the time in an oddly contradictory way, "Britney Spears invited me here. She's my first wife, my only wife. I'm her first husband. I'm here to crash the wedding."

Unsurprisingly, the security team didn't buy this explanation and Alexander would end up struggling with them before members of the Ventura County Sheriff's Department arrested him.

According to the BBC, Alexander was charged with four misdemeanors including trespassing, battery, and vandalism.

As a representative from the sheriff's office explained, "An altercation occurred with the security officers and that's where the battery occurred... and during the altercation an item was broken, so that's where the vandalism comes into play. And by being on private property, the trespass comes into play."

As People reported, Alexander had previously pleaded guilty in January to violating an order of protection and aggravated stalking against a different woman.

After receiving concerned messages from Spears' fans, the singer's assistant Vicky T released a statement confirming that neither Spears nor Asghari were harmed by this intrusion.

As she wrote in an Instagram Story, "I've done everything I can while being out of the country to keep everyone safe. Thank you to all the absolutely amazing and incredible fans for alerting me of so much. You are blessings. Thank you. Everyone is safe."

And while another person described Spears as "freaking out" over the intrusion to People, it seems that the wedding otherwise proceeded as planned.
