Ever since Dakota Johnson really made a name for herself starring in the Fifty Shades franchise, we can’t get enough of her. She seems incredibly talented and down-to-earth. I stan!
But outside of her professional life, we don’t know much else about her. Here are some interesting facts about Dakota that you might not know yet!
1. She was sent to rehab when she was 17 years old.

Both of Dakota’s parents have allegedly struggled with alcohol abuse in the past, and at the time, it appeared that the apple hadn’t fallen far from the tree.
Her parents shipped her off to rehab in 2007. She has reportedly been sober ever since and plans on keeping it that way!
2/ She’s more than happy to do nude scenes as long as she has a solid relationship with her castmates.
“Nudity is really interesting for an actor,” she told Vogue .
“Jamie and I worked so incredibly closely for so long. There were no inhibitions, and it was very honest, very trusting. But I mean, what a gamble! What if he had turned out to be a total dick?”
“There’s no makeup. There are no clothes to tell you a bit about the story. There’s no jewelry to give you a clue about social status. So it becomes purely about the performance.”

“Will I stop doing nude scenes when my boobs start sagging? I don’t know. Maybe I have more of a European mind-set about these things. I don’t want to see someone wearing a bra and underwear in a sex scene. Let’s be honest about it. People are naked when they [expletive].”
3. She would love to be in a DC film.

In an interview with Vanity Fair , Dakota revealed that she would definitely consider joining the DC universe if she were to land the role of Catwoman .
4. She used to have a gap between her two front teeth, but she had it closed.

“I had a permanent retainer since I was 13, and it was just glued to the back of my teeth,” she said on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon .
“I was having a lot of neck problems recently so my orthodontist, she decided it would be a good idea to take it off and see if my jaw expanded, and it helped me. And my gap closed by itself. And I’m really sad about it too.”
5. She was around eight years old the first time she held a gun.

During a lie detector test with Vanity Fair , Dakota revealed that the first time she ever held a gun, she was around eight years old, and that she is not afraid of firearms.
6. She is neighbors with Jimmy Kimmel.

During an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live , Dakota and Jimmy laughed it up, discussing their mutual neighbors and the awkward relationship they apparently have with them.
At the time, Jimmy mentioned that Dakota had her truck parked in front of his house, so it is safe to assume that their properties are nearly side by side.
6. She is a big fan of mid-century houses.

In an interview with Vogue , she explained that she has always been an old soul, explaining that even her taste in homes is dated.
“I used to spend hours and hours Googling mid-century houses,” she said. “I get obsessed. High-class problems, y’all.”
7. She was Miss Golden Globe in 2006.
When she was 16 years old, Dakota was Miss Golden Globe , a role that is given to the child of a celebrity (in this case, her mom) to help hand out awards.
She made history that night by being the first Miss Golden Globe to be the daughter of a former Miss Golden Globe.
8. She has admitted to being rejected for roles she auditions for often.

“I’m riddled with self-doubt and criticism,” she told Harper’s Bazaar .
“I still lose jobs and I don’t get every job that I want. I have dreams of working with certain people on certain projects and it doesn’t happen. It’s a cutthroat industry so I’m used to being shut down.”
“It’s painful and a [expletive] bummer,” she continued.

“There were many people who said , ‘you can’t do it that way’ or ‘that way won’t work’ or ‘you need to do this to get that place’, but I really believed that I could do it a different way and I did.'”
9. She was born into Hollywood royalty.

Both of Dakota’s parents, Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson are longtime Hollywood stars, as well as her grandmother, Tippi Hedren, who starred in the film The Birds .
There’s no wonder Dakota has had so much luck in show business!
10. She has struggled with depression for the last 15 years.

“I’m constantly thinking about the state of the world right now,” she told Elle . “It keeps me up at night, all night, every night. My brain goes to crazy dark places with it.”
“My brain moves at a million miles per minute,” she continued. “I have to do a lot of work to purge thoughts and emotions, and I am in a lot of therapy.”

“I’ve struggled with depression since I was young—since I was 15 or 14. That was when, with the help of professionals, I was like, ‘Oh, this is a thing I can fall into.’ But I’ve learned to find it beautiful because I feel the world. I guess I have a lot of complexities, but they don’t pour out of me. I don’t make it anyone else’s problem .”
11. She has her own production company.

While we know Dakota best on-screen, she actually has a hand in a lot of things that go on behind the scenes. She started her own production company called TeaTime Pictures.
“For a long time, I’d do a movie and have no say,” she told Elle .
“I could go into something, and it’ll be one thing, and then it comes out as a totally different thing.”

“As an artist, you’re like, ‘What the [expletive]?’ I definitely want to have my craft , my artistry, and my ideas respected and tossed around. I want to be part of the process. I also have really specific taste.”
