People are collecting them again
You might be wondering who would buy old CDs, what with the variety of music streaming we have at the tip of our fingers today. Well, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
A lot of people are reverting back to CDs and vinyl records.
Collectors yearn for nostalgia
People are collecting CDs and vinyls for the nostalgia factor they evoke, and many collectors are willing to pay large sums to complete their collection.
In turn, you could find yourself with extra cash after selling some of the most iconic discs of all time.
Bruce Springsteen CDs
The rockstar Bruce Springsteen released 21 studio albums on CD, but it’s one particular 16-track disc that’s the rarest of them all — and if you’ve got it, you might be in for a treat.
The 1988 promo-only The Future of Rock ‘n’ Roll double CD set in Japan was sold for up to £1,100 in the past.
Prince CDs
The Raspberry Beret singer also released a rare 12-track CD in Japan in 1993. The CD title is My Name Was Prince and only 50 copies were made.
The exclusive item now has collectors willing to pay a fortune for it, with one selling for £5,000 in the past.
Paris Hilton CDs
It might be surprising to find the socialite’s albums on this list, but back in 2006 when she released Paris, the street artist Banksy took to UK stores to replace many of its copies with Danger Mouse remixes, hiking up its value today.
These copies of Paris are now being sold for up to £8,000.
Now That’s What I Call Music! CDs
Now Music CDs were quite popular in the UK back in the day. And while there are over 100 albums in the series today, the earlier editions are what collectors are looking for.
The 1984 CD Now That’s What I Call Music! 4 only has 500 copies, which could sell up to £400 per copy!
Coldplay first EP CDs
The iconic band’s first EP Safety which was released in 1988 and held only three tracks. There were only 500 copies made of it, 150 of which were sold on the open market.
This makes Safety an incredibly rare find, and its reselling price has gone up to £2,000 before.
Nirvana CDs
The 1994 Nirvana single Pennyroyal Tea was recalled from the shelves days after its release due to the tragic loss of Kurt Cobain. The track was an alternate version of their In Utero.
Pennyroyal Tea is a rare find, as it only managed to sell a few copies. It is being resold now for up to £2,000.
Michael Jackson CDs
A few copies of the King of Pop’s 1997 single Smile managed to make it into the public’s hands despite its release being canceled last minute.
While most copies were withdrawn and destroyed, some prevailed and are selling for thousands of dollars today.
David Bowie CDs
The legendary David Bowie’s 1989 Sound + Vision CD is a collector’s item today as it came with a video disc and a 72-page booklet.
While it isn’t as rare as the others on this list, Sound + Vision is selling for a variety of prices online which could still get you a good amount of extra cash!
