Many women picture what it would be like to be proposed to by someone they absolutely love. However, there are many times when marriage proposals can go totally wrong.
While most believe that everyone says “yes” when someone pops the question, there are many women who actually have to say no—for many, many good reasons.

Barhopping led to a proposal.
DarthMelonLord shared she met a guy while barhopping with friends and took him home for the night because he was good-looking. They slept together, and the next morning he told her he was a devout Christian and that was his V-card. Proposed to her that morning.
She wanted a life for herself.
“My high school boyfriend proposed to me, I was barely 17. He was leaving soon to join the navy and basically wanted to “secure me”. I wanted to go to uni, get a career. He wanted me barefoot and pregnant,” shared mrsbeekeeperlady .
Different points in their relationship.

So, he decided he would rather get married instead of break up. But, she didn’t want to marry him if he genuinely didn’t want to, so she said no.

Fuzzy_Dragonfruit344 shared that she was dating someone who was not a citizen and he wanted to get married for a green card. However, he also wanted to try and trick her into having a baby with him so that she would be “trapped.”
Third time is the charm…sometimes.
“The first time I said no because it was too early in the relationship. The second time I said no because he was drunk and blurted it out. The third time I said yes which, given my current divorce proceedings 15 years later, tells me maybe I should have trusted my original gut feeling,” said Scroll_Queeen .

sluttypidge shared that she told her boyfriend she didn’t want a public proposal and hates attention. He decided to pop the question at a very specific place on a hike, the point where everyone stops to take photos. Everyone was looking at them. She was mortified and said no.
They were far too young.
strawberries-cigs said her boyfriend proposed when they were just 18, right out of high school. She wanted to live her life in her 20s and have a whole existence, but he wanted to lock her down and get married right away.
It just wasn’t right.
“We were in different places in the relationship. He was way more sure than I was. I needed more time to see if I could get to that place. He didn’t want to offer me that. That was a huge red flag for me, that he didn’t care about my needs. I stood my ground,” said findquasar .

Emergency-Chemistry1 shared that he proposed after a big blowout that happened and ended in both of them being abusive towards each other. Clearly, the relationship was very toxic and she didn’t want to do that for the rest of her life.
She woke up.
“I was 15 years old in an abusive relationship and they wanted to propose in front of everyone on my 16th knowing my issues with peer pressure. His mother slipped up before it happened thank God. I yeeted out of there quickly. Biggest wake up call of my life, ‘I don’t want to do that for the rest of my life…'” shared Maleficent_2122 .
She had wanted to break up prior.
horsenamedmayo said she wanted to break up with her boyfriend but they had planned a vacation and she felt bad not going with him. He proposed on the vacation and she had to turn him down, because she wanted to end things anyway.
What even goes on?
“I’m not actually a female, but this is story of my friend: She was asked to come to her ex’s marriage in a neighboring city. But it was fake, and he actually was going to make a proposal. Obviously, she said no. Also, she broke up with him because of domestic violence,” said salvadoor455 .
It was her boss.
greenskylar said that her boss proposed to her so he could give her his entire firm and business, but he was an extremely old man and she was not interested. He kept asking, and she even lied and said that she had a boyfriend.
They felt like they had to.
“We were gonna get married when I found out I was pregnant with my first baby, partially because we loved each other and also because I needed to get health insurance through my work. He proposed while we were laying in bed together and I said, “no, you have to ask me proper.” Found out later that week that our baby no longer had a heartbeat. After that our relationship just kinda fell apart,” said danireeseetc .
