We all probably have a lot more relatives than we even know about. Which is usually a good thing, because who wouldn’t want to learn more about their own family?
Of course, there are plenty of times when you wouldn’t want to find out somebody is related to you. Like, if you happened to be in a relationship with that person.
A Reddit user recently told the story of how she found out her boyfriend is her half-sibling.

Posted to the r/TIFU Subreddit, a user called styll_g shared her story. And wow, is it ever a wild one indeed.
“So, I’m not exactly sure how to start this.”

“Me(22f) and my boyfriend(24m) have been dating for 2 years and were planning to get married soon,” she wrote. “We had a strong relationship and really clicked but stuff has not been the same since.”
“…My dad was a bit of a player and I stopped counting how many half siblings I had after I got to 20.”

“…He’d stick around for the kid until about 2 and then flee the country, I’m English and my boyfriend is Spanish.”
“Honestly I wish this hadn’t had happened…”

She continued, “We were at my mums house and she kept making comments about how similar we are and looked and how much he looked like my dad. It’s stupid really, it was all too clear.”
“Eventually we decided to both do ancestry tests just to prove we weren’t related and boom there it was.”

“The same man on both tests, it was kinda shocking. So, yeah, we were half siblings.”
Uh, yikes. That’s all I have to say.
“I’m not sure how we are gonna go on knowing we came from the same dad but yeah.”

“I regret the test and talking to my mum that day and everything else, I still love him but it feels like something has changed in some way.”
She then finished the story by wondering what she should be doing next.
Plenty of people flocked to the comments to discuss this story.

Some expressed sympathy for the situation.
“This isn’t your fault, it’s not your BFs fault, this is all because of someone who wanted all the s*x with none of the responsibility,” a user commented.
But, a lot of commenters thought this story was unbelievable. Literally.

One commenter pointed out the flaws in the story, as well as OP’s logic, saying:
“My GF and I look alike, too. A lot of couples do. It’s what attracts them to each other. Not once was I like: let’s go get a DNA test to prove the haters.”
Her dad fathering so many children in such a way wouldn’t make sense either.

After explaining how, as per the story, this man would’ve had to be in these kids’ lives for a few years, plus move to different countries to start over, a commenter said, “There’s practically zero chance someone could pull this off without even one of these women getting him legally bound to child support.”
Also, this is apparently becoming a trend on the Subreddit.

One user pointed out, “There’s a fairly solid chance OP is lying. Its a ten day old account [with] two posts…”
It could be true, or it could be completely made up. But at least it was a wild ride.
