Many couples who plan to start a family together and have children oftentimes discuss things like how many children they want, what their future looks like, and of course, baby names.
However, there are some couples who don’t discuss baby names until the time comes. They wait until they are already pregnant and then, they have discussions about what they want to name their children. Sometimes, this can backfire.
Recently, one wife wrote into Reddit seeking advice about a disagreement she and her husband are having.

The Reddit user said that she is three months away from giving birth to the couple’s first child and she and her husband are in total disagreement about the baby’s name.
She shared that this is the first time that the couple has ever had such a big disagreement and it’s become a constant issue between them.
The Reddit user admits, she’s a name snob.

“I am a name snob, I fully admit it. No matter how much people say it doesn’t matter, a name does affect people’s perception, especially first impressions. I want to give my baby a name he can carry into adulthood without shame,” she wrote.
She’s more concerned about his name as an adult than as a baby.

While her husband seems to be focused on “cute” and “cool” baby names, she is more concerned with how the name will carry into adulthood.
She said her son deserves a name that will earn respect and be seen as a strong presence, not as a joke.
Her choice of names are pretty generic.

The Reddit user said she’s compiled a list of names she likes, pretty “normal” and generic names, but her husband has said no to everyone. Names like Adam, Charlie, Thomas—usual boy names that you see on a regular basis.
Her husband, however, has a different choice of names.

Apparently, her husband’s top choices are, “Ranger, Ryder, Flash, Sixx, Baratheon, Ender, Trapper.”
“YEAH. TELL ME I’M THE CRAZY ONE. And as if those are frightening enough, he wants to [expletive] king pair them up. Imagine my poor son living his life named Sixx Baratheon [surname],” she continued.
She told her husband to get her head in the game.

“I’ve told my husband he needs to sit down on this one. He’s too blinded by the sonogram of a tiny baby and little blue onesies and teddy bears to remember our son isn’t going to be little for long. But he won’t have it.
He’s screamed at me that he should be the one to name him anyway because he’s a guy and understands boy names better than me,” she wrote.
Now, she’s saying she’s willing to divorce her husband over this.

The Reddit user said it is “absolutely” worth divorcing her husband to make sure that her son doesn’t end up with a name that is a total joke and turns into a laughing stock. She asked the Reddit community if she was wrong for thinking this.
Many people agreed with the wife.

“Honestly sounds like your husband is treating your new baby as an accessory rather than a person . Says he ‘Needs a cute and fun name’, whilst ignoring that this is a person who is gonna have to use that name in their actual life,” shared sweetintox .
Other Reddit users said her husband isn’t considering bullying.

algelb chimed in and said that while unique names can be fun and sweet, many parents don’t consider how that they also come with bullying and tons of ridicule. Many other Reddit users chimed in and said that it’s important to consider as well.
Some other people said that her husband needs a pet.

Many Reddit users liked the names that her husband suggested—but, not for a child. Many said that baby names are for people to have throughout their life, and names carry them. However, you can always give a pet a fun, unique, and creative name without it being crazy or hard.
However, one Reddit user suggested a compromise.

“I can see a relatively easy compromise. Let’s say he wants Ender, name the baby Andrew and let him use Ender as a nickname, like in the book. Even if it catches on for his life, he’ll be able to introduce himself as Andrew as a professional later in life,” said DaftGray .
