Although Twitter can be a place where people have a lot of fun, it’s also somewhere that most of us wouldn’t really be shocked if you said you wanted to avoid entirely.
After all, you never really know who will be the community’s villain of the day as it can be anyone from everyday citizens to multinational corporations .
And it’s easy enough for popular targets like Disney or EA Games to barely notice the backlash they get in a given day, but it’s often overwhelming when someone standing on their own suddenly gets thousands of angry messages from strangers telling them how much they hate them.
But while Twitter’s community is known for frothing with rage on an almost daily basis, some of its more sarcastic and witty users can bring us delight when they roast someone’s hot take .
And one gamer recently put their foot into one prickly hive of ridicule when he showed how clueless he was.
On February 16, someone asked his fellow gamers to “explain to me why the h**l Aloy has a beard?”
For those who are unaware, Aloy is the main character of the wilderness-based action games Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon: Forbidden West , which are set in a post-apocalyptic world run by machines.
And as we can see here, the “beard” he’s referring to is really the light dusting of facial hair you’re likely to see on the side of most people’s faces if you look hard enough.
It’s easier to notice on some people than others, but unless you’ve got alopecia universalis , you almost certainly have something similar on your face.
Not only did Twitter users find this person’s cluelessness hilarious, but some noted that Aloy would actually look exceedingly well-groomed considering what world she’s living in.
We can see that in this response, but another woman wrote , “Trust me, guys, those beauty standards are gonna be some of the first to go when the world ends.”
Can’t waste energy shaving when there’s game to hunt and nuts and berries to gather, after all.
Others suggested that this person might be too used to the primitive way that women were modelled in previous games to recognize a more realistic trait.
It’s hard not to chuckle when seeing this sarcastic statement applied to the boxy female characters we saw in the ’90s, but I just forgot how easy it would be for someone to accidentally cut themselves on Lara Croft’s chest back then.
No wonder she’s facepalming in this picture.
And of course, some figured there was a more direct and stereotypical reason why Aloy’s facial hair seemed so alien to this person.
Indeed, it’s pretty hard to notice the finer details of a woman’s face when there aren’t any in your life.
Congratulations, you’ve played yourself.
And finally, another user saw a good reason to suspect that our hapless anti-beard crusader fell asleep in biology class.
This probably wasn’t how that person was looking to get educated today, but at least he can say he learned something.
Hopefully, anyway.
