Both US President Donald Trump and Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts had an encounter prior to his speech to Congress on Tuesday, March 4, and it caught people’s eyes, more than the speech itself.
Yes, the speech itself was important, as it addressed several points including that Russian President Vladimir Putin is calling for peace, but countless theories emerged concerning what Trump said to Supreme Court Chief Justice Roberts.
Trump set the record straight
Trump took to Truth Social to shut the liberals who flooded the platforms with conspiracy theories down, saying:
“The Fake ‘Play the Ref’ News, in order to create a divide between me and our great U.S. Supreme Court, heard me say last night, loudly and openly as I was walking past the Justices on the way to the podium, ‘thank you’, to Chief Justice John Roberts.”
He slammed the media
“Like most people, I don’t watch Fake News CNN or MSDNC, but I understand they are going ‘crazy’ asking what is it that I was thanking Justice Roberts for?” Trump explained, showing his awareness of the circulating conspiracy theories.
He also slammed the journalists
“They never called my office to ask, of course, but if they had I would have told these sleazebag ‘journalists’ that I thanked him for SWEARING ME IN ON INAUGURATION DAY, AND DOING A REALLY GOOD JOB IN SO DOING! The Fake News never quits!” Trump concluded his post.
He addressed the Russian-Ukrainian conflict at the conference
The ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war was on top of Trump’s agenda for the congress, where he claimed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is “gambling with World War 3.”
“The letter reads Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring lasting peace closer,” Trump said.
Ukraine wants peace
“Nobody wants peace more than the Ukrainians. Regarding the agreement on minerals and security, Ukraine is ready to sign it at any time that is convenient for you,” the US president added after his and Zelenskyy’s heated-up meeting at the White House on February 28.
Putin also seems welcoming of peace
Trump also added during the longest presidential address to Congress in history that he has received “strong signals” from Putin that Russia is also ready to make a peace deal. This comes after three years of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
