The Russian-Ukrainian conflict is still ongoing and how people host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy speaks volumes. There is a stark difference between how US President Donald Trump hosted Zelenskyy in comparison to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Zelenskyy faced humiliation in the White House at the hands of both Trump and his vice president, JD Vance, while he was greeted with warmth in London after the incident.
Zelenskyy’s visit to the Oval Office
Zelenskyy visited the White House to meet up with Trump and Vance only to be met with humiliation. Trump accused Zelenskyy of “gambling with World War 3” due to the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
In addition, Zelenskyy was criticized for not wearing a suit for the encounter, with Trump telling him: “You’re all dressed up today.”
It was totally different in London
When Zelenskyy arrived in London, Starmer greeted him with a warm embrace. The cameras caught them laughing and speaking briefly while the general public cheered and applauded, which Starmer addressed during his talk.
Zelenskyy has the UK’s support
“As you can hear from the cheers outside, you have full backing from across the United Kingdom and we stand with you, with Ukraine, for as long as it may take,” the British prime minister told Zelenskyy. The pair also shared a cup of tea together.
Redditors shared their opinions
The pair sharing a cup of tea together caught the Redditors‘ eyes, which made them compare both of Zelenskyy’s recent meetups, with one of them saying:
“It makes me so happy to see President Zelenskyy smile, especially with what he’s going through.”
The British meetup felt heartwarming for people
“Such a stark contrast to what he looked like last week at the white supremacy house,” another Redditor wrote.
“He looks like he’s visiting his grandma’s house, and it really is heartwarming to see,” a third added.
The power of tea
Other Redditors noted the love of the British for tea, especially that Zelenskyy and Starmer drank some during their encounter, saying: “And THAT is how you welcome someone who is going through some s**t. Have a cup of tea lad, tell me what’s going on.”
Another echoed: “I love how the British cure everything with a cup of tea. And it works.”
