Donald Trump wrote a rather ominous message after Zohran Mamdani won the New York City electoral race.
Mamdani’s win was announced on Tuesday
Social Democrat Zohran Mamdani has been announced as the new mayor of New York City after achieving what is being described as a ‘historic’ win on Tuesday, November 4.
The 34-year-old is the first Muslim and South Asian NYC mayor, and is the youngest person to be elected in the US in more than 100 years.
He won by just over 50 percent
Mamdani was able to secure 50.4% of the vote, while Andrew Cuomo received 41.6% and Curtis Sliwa received 7.1%.
President Trump wasn’t happy about the news, as he had previously expressed support for Andrew Cuomo.
Trump made his position clear
Prior to the elections, Trump had called for residents of NYC to vote for Andrew Cuomo, per CNN.
He said on 60 Minutes, “Whether you personally like Andrew Cuomo or not, you really have no choice. You must vote for him, and hope he does a fantastic job. He is capable of it, Mamdani is not!”
He has since posted a confusing message
After the election results came out, Trump posted quite an ominous message on Truth Social, writing, “…AND SO IT BEGINS!”
Mamdani also mentioned Trump in his victory speech on Tuesday, saying, “If anyone can show a nation betrayed by Donald Trump how to defeat him, it is the city that gave rise to him.”
Mamdani wants to ‘stop Trump’
“This is not only how we stop Trump. It’s how we stop the next one,” Mamdani said in his speech. “So Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching, I have four words for you: ‘Turn the volume up’.”
“We will hold bad landlords to account because the Donald Trumps of our city have grown far too comfortable taking advantage of their tenants.”
The Mayor plans to end corruption
Mamdani continued, “We will put an end to the culture of corruption that has allowed billionaires like Trump to evade taxation and exploit tax breaks.”
“We will stand alongside unions and expand labor protections because we know, just as Donald Trump does, that when working people have ironclad rights, the bosses who seek to extort them become very small indeed.”
He addressed Trump directly
“New York will remain a city of immigrants, a city built by immigrants, powered by immigrants and as of tonight, led by an immigrant,” the Mayor went on.
“So hear me, President Trump when I say this, to get to any of us, you will have to get through all of us.”
