Trump Gushes Over Controversial Sydney Sweeney Ad After Learning She’s A Registered Republican

President Donald Trump has shown support for Sydney Sweeney’s controversial American Eagle jeans ad after reporters told him on Sunday, August 3, that the actress is a registered Republican.

The president praised Sweeney

While speaking to reporters on the runway in Allentown, Pennsylvania on Sunday, President Donald Trump praised actress Sydney Sweeney’s controversial American Eagle jeans ad.

She’s been registered since June 2024

Reporters on the runway informed Trump that Sweeney is a registered Republican.

Sweeney’s political standing was shared by The Guardian on Sunday after reviewing public voting records. They found that the 27-year-old has been a registered Republican in Florida since June 2024.

Trump was happy to hear the information

“She’s a registered Republican?” Trump asked. “Now I love her ad.”

“Is that right? Is Sydney Sweeney…,” the president continued with a smirk. “You’d be surprised how many people are Republicans. That’s one I wouldn’t have known, but I’m glad you told me that.”

He decided he loved her ad

“If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic,” the president decided.

Trump isn’t the first MAGA voice to praise Sweeney’s American Eagle advertising campaign. His Communications Director Steven Cheung, Vice President JD Vance, and Texas Senator Ted Cruz all stood by Sweeney.

The ad sparked a lot of backlash

The actress as well as the jeans brand received scrutiny online following an ad campaign with the tagline ‘Sydeny Sweeney has great jeans’, playing on the words ‘jeans’ and ‘genes’.

Some critics claimed it was pushing eugenic ideals with this wordplay.

In one advert, the actress says, “Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality and even eye color.”

“My jeans are blue,” she adds, before the narrator declares, “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans.”

The company has since responded

American Eagle have since responded to the backlash, saying in a statement, “‘Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans’ is and always was about the jeans.”

“Her jeans. Her story. We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.”
