Although it’s generally admirable to be open and honest when you’re entering the dating world, some circumstances may not make this as simple as it sounds.
It’s a sad reality that simply existing as a transgender person can carry significant risk, as at least 29 people who fit this identity were murdered in the U.S. in 2017, while another 26 experienced fatal violence in 2018.
According to the Human Rights Campaign, both numbers are difficult to determine due to misgendering tendencies in law enforcement and media reports.

Based on these statistics , it’s easy to understand why some transgender people may be hesitant to reveal this aspect of themselves when they’re getting to know someone.
However, one refreshing response can still inspire a little hope for the future.
Our story comes courtesy of a Texas YouTuber named Tiffany Monroe.

Monroe is relatively new to the platform, with her oldest video dating back to four months ago. In that time, she has amassed a little over 710 subscribers.
Her most recent video details her experiences undergoing gender confirmation surgery, which began in early January.

In the description for this video, she also said that her operations for this stage of her transition (which isn’t necessarily part of other people’s transitions), are still ongoing.
This fact is starting to make her feel pretty exhausted.
But while all of this goes on, she still found some time to chat with a fellow Texan.

Based on what he said, they had already seemed to express some interest in each other by the time Monroe informed him that she’s a trans-woman.
And the man’s response was special enough that Monroe saw fit to share it with her Twitter following.
Not only is he not acting weird about this information, but it seems to come naturally to him to understand and accept who she is.
One Twitter user summed up his attitude with a very appropriate GIF.
If there was a camera on him at the time, we probably would’ve seen him shrug when he read Monroe’s text.
Another user had a much more direct, but just as supportive response.
I can only dream of saying something cool enough to inspire this comment out of my date’s friends.
Unsurprisingly, this was a lot of people’s favorite reaction.
Sadly, the internet being the internet, it seems that not everyone was so supportive.

But if there’s one thing that supporters love as much as knowing they’re loved back, it’s watching the one they admire find a funny way to tell the haters off.
And yes, this time, we can actually call them haters.
But although even this lovely moment came with a reminder of what transgender people often go through, it still shows how much some folks get it.

And if the day when people who get it outnumber those who don’t isn’t already here, this seems like a sign of hope that it’s coming.
