Rihanna sat down for a rare interview recently to discuss her upcoming fashion line and being a curvy girl in fashion.
The megastar first stepped into the limelight nearly 15 years ago.
The R&B/Pop singer is most famous for her catchy, hit-making songs but lately, she’s put that on pause.
Over the past few years, Rih Rih’s empire has grown to include everything from makeup to lingerie.
She’s made waves in every industry she’s entered by rebelling against the status quo.
Her shade-inclusive cosmetics line Fenty Beauty is the perfect example.
Now Rihanna has her sights set on the high-end fashion world.
Earlier this month, the star confirmed that she would be partnering with LVMH to launch a new luxury fashion house called Fenty.
She’s also making history and her Fenty line will be celebrating many ‘firsts.’
Rih will be the first woman to create an original brand at LVMH a.k.a. Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton.
She’s also the first woman of color at the top of an LVMH maison.
Recently the singer sat down with the New York Times and opened up about her new venture.
“I use myself as the muse. It’s sweatpants with pearls, or a masculine denim jacket with a corset. I feel like we live in a world where people are embracing every bit of who they are,” Rihanna told the NYT’s T magazine .
She said that becoming a curvy girl in the fashion industry changed the way she looked at designing clothes.
“It just changed how I dress in terms of my proportions,” she said. “You wear what looks good on you and that’s it. I’m thick and curvy right now, and so if I can’t wear my own stuff then, I mean, that’s not gonna work, right?”
Because of this, Rih said Fenty is going to be a lot more size inclusive than most luxury fashion houses.
“My size is not the biggest size. It’s actually closer to the smallest size we have: We go up to a [French size] 46,” she said. “We’re saying we can meet you at any one drop that we put out.”
Fans will be able to get their hands on some Fenty fashions as soon as May 29th.
Fenty is already set to buck traditions by skipping the runway shows and focusing on selling clothing directly to the consumer.
Most major fashion houses don’t have collections available until they’re sold six weeks later at a boutique or high-end retailer.
When asked about this Rihanna stayed true to her Bad Gal title and said, “I want to be as disruptive as possible.”
