Chris Columbus, who directed the first two Harry Potter movies shared his opinion on the upcoming TV series adaptation of the beloved story.
He shared his thoughts in an interview
In an appearance on The Rest Is Entertainment podcast, the 66-year-old film director said of his reaction to seeing photos from the filming of the remake, “Part of me was like: What’s the point?”
They show the actors wearing the same outfits
The photos Columbus is referring to show Nick Frost as Hagrid and Dominic McLaughlin as Harry on set filming the HBO show.
Columbus said Frost, 53, is ‘wearing the exact same costume that we designed for Hagrid’.
He was referring to the first movie

The director was referring to Hagrid’s costume design in the 2001 movie Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
The character was played by the late Robbie Coltrane in the original movies.
Columbus thought there would be more novelty
“I thought the costumes and everything was going to be different, but it’s more of the same. It’s all going to be the same,” the director added.
Frost and Mclaughlin were spotted filming what appeared to be a scene from the first book where Hagrid takes Harry to Leaky Cauldron.
The costumes look very similar

In the photos, Frost’s Hagrid is wearing corduroy pants and a few layers of jackets under a long coat along with a long hairdo and beard.
“It’s very flattering for me, because I’m like, that’s exactly the Hagrid costume that we designed,” Columbus said. “So part of it is really exciting, so I’m excited to see what they’re going to do with it. Part of it is sort of deja vu all over again.”
Columbus told the host he’s moving on

Columbus spoke to the host Richard Osman about his career, from Home Alone to The Thursday Murder Club.
He emphasized that he was not ‘jealous’ of HBO revisiting the Harry Potter franchise. “It’s time to move on,” he said.
He’s glad he got to be part of it
Columbus continued, “I’m really proud of those films, the first three that I was involved with, and I’m moving on.”
In January, before photos from filming the TV series came out, Columbus had told People that he thought it was ‘a spectacular idea’, adding, “I look forward to seeing what they’re trying to do with it.”
