Looks like J.K. Rowling is still holding onto some hard feelings when it comes to the Harry Potter stars. Her latest tweet pretty much says it all.
The 59-year-old author didn’t hold back, throwing some serious shade at Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint in a post on X last Tuesday (March 18).
At this point, it’s no secret that Rowling and the trio who brought her Wizarding World to life aren’t exactly on friendly terms.
Rowling and the Harry Potter stars have a strained relationship
Last April, she told them they “can save their apologies” — making it pretty clear she wasn’t interested in any kind of reconciliation. This all started because they spoke out against her controversial views.
The controversy started with Rowling’s tweets in 2020
Back in June 2020, Rowling posted a bunch of tweets that a lot of people — including some Harry Potter actors — called transphobic. That’s when things really started to fall apart.
Daniel Radcliffe publicly opposed Rowling’s views
Radcliffe responded with an open letter for The Trevor Project, an LGBTQ+ organization, apologizing for the “pain” caused by the situation. He hoped it wouldn’t “taint” the movies for fans.
“It’s clear that we need to do more to support transgender and non-binary people, not invalidate their identities,” he said, calling the fallout with Rowling “really sad.”
He also made it clear that just because Rowling wrote the books, it didn’t mean he “owed” her anything. He mentioned he hadn’t spoken to her in years.
Emma Watson also took a stand in support of the trans community
Watson didn’t stay silent either. She posted on Twitter, “Trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned or told they aren’t who they say they are.”
She added, “I want my trans followers to know that I and so many other people around the world see you, respect you and love you for who you are.”
Rupert Grint compared Rowling to an aunt with controversial views
Grint also showed support for the trans community, saying, “I firmly stand with the trans community and echo the sentiments expressed by many of my peers. Trans women are women. Trans men are men.”
Two years later, he spoke to The Times and explained his stance, saying, “I liken JK Rowling to an auntie. I don’t necessarily agree with everything my auntie says, but she’s still my auntie. It’s a tricky one.”
Rowling appears to reignite the feud with a recent tweet
Rowling jumped right back into the drama when she responded to a tweet that asked, “What actor/actress instantly ruins a movie for you?”
Quoting the post, she wrote, “Three guesses. Sorry, but that was irresistible” — along with three laughing emojis.
Fans react to Rowling’s not-so-subtle shade
It wasn’t hard to figure out who she was talking about, but just in case, social media users filled in the blanks.
Some even posted pictures of Radcliffe, Watson, and Grint in their Hogwarts costumes.
One person joked, “A cute girl, a boy with glasses, and a boy with red hair come to mind. Their names escape me, since I haven’t seen them in anything for quite some time.”
Another one added, “JK I had to read this four times to understand the shade.”
Someone else simply wrote, “Savage.”
