It’s Lil Nas X’s world, we’re just living in it. If you have somehow managed to not hear ‘Old Town Road’ by now, you must be some kind of superhero, because the breakout hit from rap-country’s newest (and potentially only) darling child has just broken the record for longest time ever spent at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.
In case you’ve somehow missed it, this is the song dominating the charts right now.
But be warned. Once you hear it, it won’t ever leave your head again. You’ll always have the horses in the back. And you’ll LIKE it.
At 17 weeks at #1, Lil Nas X just beat out the Queen of Pop herself, Mariah Carey.

Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day” held the record previously at 16 weeks spent at number 1 in 1995-1996.
Other songs have come pretty close.
Justin Bieber and Luis Fonzi’s smash hit Despacito met Mariah’s 16 weeks at number 1, but couldn’t crest it.
‘Old Town Road’ has managed to do the impossible.
A not insignificant part of that feat was accomplished by the sheer number of remixes that Lil Nas X put out, the streams of which all count towards the original song’s position on the chart.
Congrats, Lil Nas X! Put those cowboy boots up and relax, you’ve earned it.
