Our pets play an unbelievably large part in our lives and if they go missing it can be one of the most heartbreaking experiences.
When one family’s beloved dog went missing late last month, it was thought that she may never have come home — however, against all the odds, she was reunited with her family after an intense rescue mission.
Jessie Lee had been missing for two weeks.

During the period that she was missing, Jessie’s owners went out to diligently search for her every single day.
Fortunately, though things seemed bleak, Jessie’s owners were made up when they eventually received a call from the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region who had located Jessie.
However, Jessie had not exactly been in an easy-to-reach place!

Jessie had been trapped on a 50-foot-high a cliff near Fountain Creek. Animal law enforcement with the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region had been called to help the poor pooch out.
Officer Barker (I know, perfect right?) and Officer Johnson were quick to arrive on the scene.
The officers located Jessie with a pair of binoculars, then mounted an intense rescue journey.

In a Facebook post detailing the rescue, the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region wrote:
“A man living nearby supplied the officers with a mountaineering harness and rappelling rope. Officer Barker anchored herself to a sturdy wooden fencepost and began rappelling down to the dog.
“Once the dog saw Officer Barker, she immediately started to wag her tail and crawl towards her, but the ground was slipping out from underneath the dog. She was too far away to reach, so Officer Johnson lowered a catchpole which Officer Barker was able to get around the dog’s neck and shoulder. This allowed Officer Barker to slowly pull the dog closer without the risking of losing her if she fell.”
One the officers had gotten Jessie out of her jam, they used Jessie’s name and owners from her tag and microchip.

Jessie’s owners were quick to turn up and pick up their missing dog as soon as possible, elated to have their beloved dog back with their family.
Many people took to social media to thank the officers for their daring rescue work.

“Thank you ALE Officers Barker & Johnson. This is such a heartwarming story of safely getting Jessie Lee back to her family,” wrote one individual.
Hopefully Jessie will not beg going out and getting herself into such a jam again any time in the future!
