All Meghan Markle wanted to do was support her friend, Serena Williams, by making a surprise visit to her game at Wimbledon.
And instead, she’s been called a “nightmare” for wearing jeans to the match.
Yes, really.
When Meghan Markle attended Wimbledon this past weekend, all she wanted to do was support her friend.
That friend just so happens to be tennis superstar, Serena Williams.
Instead, the Duchess got dragged into a huge media scandal.
It stemmed from Meghan reportedly asking fans not to take her picture.
She was requesting privacy since she was there in a “private capacity.”
Not surprisingly, this didn’t sit well with a lot of folks.
A woman named Sally Jones spoke to the Daily Telegraph via the Express about what happened.
She was one of the people reportedly asked by a royal protection officer to abstain from taking pics of Markle.
“I think this royal protection officer was quite embarrassed,” she said about the incident.
“He appeared a bit mystified as to why he was being asked to make such a request.”
Soon after her remarks went viral, Meghan found herself in a media storm.
Some people suggested Meghan has just brought more negative attention onto herself.
Some people claim that if Meghan had simply posed for a few photos, this story wouldn’t have happened, so it would’ve been less intrusive into her life in the long run.
Even Piers Morgan told the royal to “go back to America.”
In addition to this, she’s being dragged on Twitter.
Piers also tweeted about the incident.
Piers said Meghan should “keep it simple, keep it humble, keep it sincere, keep it public in public,” and added that she should “keep her moaning mouth shut” if she wanted respect.
In his article for the Daily Mail, Piers doubled down.
He wrote , “Stop bleating about privacy. If you’re out in public, among the public, you’re a public person. Your ridiculous behavior at Wimbledon this week showed me you haven’t understood that being a royal is very different to being a celebrity.”
He called her behavior “shameful.”
“To have royal protection officers, that British taxpayers pay for, order people not to take photos as you sit watching the tennis in your free VIP seats with your friends was embarrassing and shameful – not least because neither person was taking photos of you!”
Now, even her appearance at Wimbledon is being called a “nightmare.”
When speaking to “The Times”, a British publication, several sources shared their outrage.
One source identified as an official for the event said: “It was a nightmare, she was a nightmare.”
They had an issue with the new mom wearing jeans to an All England Club members’ area.
“She wanted to come incognito but there were problems,” another source said.
“They couldn’t invite her into the royal box because she was wearing jeans.”
“But that didn’t really matter because all she wanted to do was come and watch Serena.”
“Andy Murray was on Court 1 afterward, and it was a massive faux pas not to watch a Brit when she is signed up to the Royal Family.”

For the record, Meghan was dressed in blue jeans, a hat, black top, and a blazer.
It’s not like she was nude or wearing a sign that said: “I hate British people.”
Yet, you would think she did something *horribly* wrong by the way people are judging her.
It should also be pointed out that Meghan wasn’t sitting in the royal box at Wimbledon.
She was sitting courtside in court No.1 where a strict dress code isn’t enforced.
It is in the royal box, though, according to the official Wimbledon website:
“Protocol – dress is smart, suits/jacket and tie, etc. Ladies are asked not to wear hats, as they tend to obscure the vision of those seated behind them.”
This means that Meghan was in the clear the whole time.
So go ahead, Meghan, wear those jeans loud and proud.
You’re doing amazing, sweetie!
And it looks like the venue itself agrees with me.
Speaking to W Magazine , the official spokespeople for the club said, “Any suggestion that the duchess’s visit was anything other than a privilege for the club is categorically not the view of the club, and she is always welcome to attend the championships.”
Now, some people are changing their tune. They believe that Meghan was fine with fans taking her picture.
The public’s opinion on Meghan has been going back and forth like — dare we say it — tennis balls.
Some people pointed out Meghan was interacting with people.
She shook a young boy’s hand and spoke to multiple people at length while she was there, which is honestly more interaction than I usually have when I leave my house.
Overall, it looks like people might be being a tad critical to the Duchess.
She was there in a private capacity, after all, not representing the Royal Family on official business. Just let her support her friend in peace!
