Do you remember the late ’00s, early ’10s when there were a lot of commercials about cyberbullying and encouraging being nice online ? Basically a “if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say it” reminder?
Well, some people never took that to heart and still leave rude comments all across the internet. Others, meanwhile, have had enough and have started confronting those being needlessly mean online.
These days, it’s not uncommon to see rude comments online.

Be they under someone’s selfie or maybe even a nice photo of a butterfly, there’s no escaping weirdos who want to be unnecessarily mean online.
One man decided he’d had enough of it, and thought that one of these commenters ought to be confronted.
In comes James Smith, a personal trainer.
James has quite the following, with just over 1 million followers on both his TikTok and his Instagram . He’s also an author, a podcaster, and a social media vigilante if a recent video of his has anything to say about it.
The TikTok starts quick.

It features some on-screen text saying “Man woke up and decided to be Liam Neeson” as he’s making a phone call.
“Hi, is this Adrian?” he asks. When the man on the other end confirms, he says, “Yeah, it’s James Smith, you just left a nasty comment on one of my posts.”
The comment is featured in the video for all to see.

In the comment, this ‘Adrian’ fellow calls James fat, then says, “You need to give all your wealth away and check your macros and workout harder.”
On the phone, however, he was extremely polite. He immediately opens with an apology, then said he was honored to get a call from Smith.
Smith is smiling the entire time.

He asks Adrian what’s going on, what the issue is, why he would leave a comment like that. Adrian responds very casually, saying it was just a joke and nothing to be taken seriously.
Smith presses further, saying Adrian is in the same line of work, and again describing the comment as “not needed”. Adrian agrees, says he was using Smith for “gratuitous entertainment”, and apologizes again.
Adrian says he respects Smith a lot and thanks him for calling.

Smith wishes him a good day, then hangs up. The comments found the whole interaction hilarious.
“Bro folded under pressure,” reads the top comment, with many others pointing out how quick Adrian was to backtrack.
“The immediate panic in his voice is delightful,” says another.
Then there were those who focused on Smith.
People praised him for actually standing up to someone leaving a mean comment, pointing out that Adrian was being a bully and forcing him to reconcile that in real time.
It was a bold strategy for sure, and a call that Adrian surely won’t forget. It should also leave others who were hoping to be rude under Smith’s posts a little wary.
