A viral TikTok video shows a man making a fake proposal, apparently as part of a joke, or as a prelude to a real proposal. There was nothing fake, though, about the way his girlfriend responded.
People make a very big deal out of proposals.
If proposals are important to you and your partner, then by all means make a big show of it. But considering how badly things can go when a proposal takes place in public, it might be best to do things in a low-key manner.

If your tolerance for cringe is low, you might not want to watch this video. When you put your partner on the spot in front of thousands of people, the potential for awkwardness is high.

The video , posted by TikTok account @Canadianpartylife , shows a man standing up to embrace his girlfriend as she climbs down the steps to her seat. She seems a bit taken aback, but returns his affection.
He gets down on one knee.
Everyone knows what this means, and you can see that the stunt captured the attention of practically everyone in the section. The woman’s jaw drops as she thinks she’s about to be proposed to. But when she sees the ‘ring’, she raises her hand.
It was a ring pop.
When she saw that it was a ring pop and not a real ring, she slapped the bejeezus out of him and angrily asked him what was wrong with him. Needless to say, it made for some drama.
Is there a joke here?
Get it? Normally people propose with an expensive ring, but this guy’s proposing with a cheap novelty candy because his girlfriend isn’t worth it, or something. Honestly, it’s hard to know why he wanted to humiliate his girlfriend in front of thousands of people.
Some thought they spotted a real ring in the man’s back pocket and suggested he might have been about to swap the ring pop out for some proper bling, but if that was the plan, it sure backfired.
Commenters mostly sided with the woman.
It isn’t cool to slap people, but if there was ever a situation in which a slap was justified, this would be it. She didn’t ask to be made the center of attention in the first place.
