We all make mistakes in life, but there are some people who apparently can’t handle even the simplest of responsibilities.
And while that can be frustrating on its own, it’s far worse when their immediate response to messing up is to blame others for something that was obviously their fault. And it’s certainly annoying to work with someone like that, but the sad fact is that just as many people can personally attest that it’s even more aggravating to date them.
We can see that in stories where people try to act like their busy partners are at fault for not waiting on them hand and foot, but even that doesn’t compare to those instances where they didn’t think their own policies through and blamed their spouses for following them.
And a prime example of that annoying habit was on full display with one man who apparently never learned to be careful what he wished for.
Although the woman we’re about to hear from has been with her boyfriend for three years, there was one major way in which he didn’t make a great first impression.
As she explained in a Reddit post , he overslept after the first night they spent together and when she woke him up, he was in a bad enough mood that it led to a major fight.
As the woman put it, he said, “I should not wake him up even if I knew he would be late to meeting the Pope (his words).”
So since she’s the daughter of two lawyers, she drafted a contract stating that she would never wake him up unless it was an emergency.
In return, the contract held that he could never blame her for him oversleeping as a result of following this agreement. At the time, he laughed and signed it.
But three years later, this contract would become very important after the boyfriend got a new job and celebrated by playing video games with his friends long into the night.
He had to wake up for 7 am and when that time came, the woman simply let him sleep as promised. By the time she left the house at 8:15, he was still asleep.
Naturally, by the time he got up, he caught a scolding from his boss for showing up late on his first day.
Angered and likely embarrassed by this exchange, he shouted at the woman when he returned home and blamed her for not waking him up.
In her words, “All I did was stay silent until he stopped shouting then showed him the paper he signed.”

With that, she told him that he’s an adult who’s capable of setting an alarm and that failing to do so is his problem. In response, he argued that the contract no longer applies because he doesn’t work for his laid-back friend anymore.
Although the woman didn’t think she did anything wrong, she reached out to Reddit and was told that this situation was as clearly her boyfriend’s fault as it seemed to her.
That said, they also seemed concerned that this didn’t seem like a happy or healthy relationship and advised her to reconsider whether she wants to be with him.
As one person said , “The guy is 30 years old and unable to wake up for his new job then blames his girlfriend even though it’s HIS responsibility…..talk about a catch..”
And while this response would probably make the boyfriend even angrier, another user said something that would definitely appeal to someone who grew up around lawyers.
In their words , “He never renegotiated voiding the agreement.”
